iPhone 4S Jailbreak Untethered for iOS 5.1 Successful, Release Approaches

Great news for anyone who is waiting to jailbreak the iPhone 4S on iOS 5.1 or iOS 5.1.1.

Pod2g, the hacker responsible for sharing the latest kernel exploits has successfully completed a new iPad jailbreak Untethered on iOS 5.1, and says it should also work on any device, which means we are very close to the iPhone 4S Jailbreak Untethered for IOS 5.1.

Pod2g is testing the new jailbreak to find out if it will also work on iOS 5.1.1, the latest version of iOS released by Apple last week. We’ve warned users to avoid iOS 5.1.1 if they want to jailbreak the iPhone 4S, and that remains the best bet.

Update: Video of the new iPad jailbreak on iOS 5.1 Untethered

There is no visual proof of an iPhone 4S untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1 yet, but Pod2g posted his claim on twitter in the following two tweets. Pod2g normally works with iPhone hackers to release the public iPhone 4S jailbreak when it is ready.

iPhone 4S Jailbreak Untethered iOS 5.1Pod2g recently announced that the iPhone 4S iOS 5.1 Untethered jailbreak was weeks to months away from release, and based on this latest announcement, I think we may see a new iPhone 4S jailbreak tool before the end of May.

There is obviously a lot of work and testing left before the new iOPS 5.1 iPhone 4S jailbreak is released, but this latest update means that it is possible and should be in our hands soon.

This same tool would likely jailbreak the new iPad as well as all other iPhones and iPads running iOS 5.1 untethered, with the exception of the Apple TV.

There are reasons not to jailbreak, but most users will appreciate the ability to install apps that Apple has not approved for the iPhone and iPad such as multitasking and better integration with notifications.
