Apple Preps for iPhone 5 Launch Date

Published

on

Ahead of its presumed iPhone 5 launch event set to take place next Wednesday, Apple has begun preparing the Buena Vista Center for the Arts for the launch of the company’s new hardware.

MacStories, courtesy of Steve Streza, posted a series of photos showing the prep that is being done ahead of the iPhone 5 launch event, scheduled to take place in San Francisco on September 12th.

The banners are standard Apple fare and don’t reveal anything about the product or products that could be announced at the event. Thus far, the banners seem to be vibrantly colored, a bit different from the company’s banners at WWDC 2012 which were fairly plain.

According to 9to5Mac, the preparation for the event actually started last night with Apple banners being hung inside the event center itself.By next week, the Buena Vista Center for the Arts should be transformed into a venue fit for a major Apple product launch.

Earlier this week, Apple sent out invites for the event and while it remains mum on the product it will be announcing, the invitation did hint to the iPhone 5 as the date listed on the event invite had a shadow in the shape of a ‘5’.

The new iPhone 5 is rumored to be quite different from the previous iPhones, including the iPhone 4S which is Apple’s current generation smartphone.

Rumors have the iPhone 5 sporting a new, taller design with a 4-inch display offering a 16:9 aspect ratio. If true, this would mark the first time that Apple has changed up the size of the iPhone’s screen.

Previous iPhone models had 3.5-inch displays.

In addition, the company is said to have added a slimmer design, a metal back, a smaller dock connector and a newly placed headphone jack which will reside on the bottom of the phone.

The iPhone 5 is also rumored to have 4G LTE data speeds, a faster processor, a new HD front-facing camera and iOS 6, Apple’s latest mobile operating system.

Today, a leak indicated that the company will offer the device in six different forms with white and black models coming in 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB variants.

Pricing for the devices will apparently remain the same, sitting at $199.99, $299.99 and $399.99.

iPhone 5 Release Date

Earlier today, we reported that a trusted source informed us that the iPhone 5 release date is indeed September 21st, a date that has been thrown out as a possible release date before.

Apple has not yet confirmed anything but we know that it likes to release its products shortly after it announces them.

That means that September 21st, at this point, is as good of a date as any.
