iPhone 5 Release Date Pegged for September

Published

on

With the iPhone 5 release date still very much up for a debate, a new report has chimed in saying that September and not October will be the month that Apple releases the next iPhone.

According to a report from Digitimes, Apple has sent orders to Pegatron for the next iPhone and the device is apparently slated to hit shelves at some point in September, a month earlier than the iPhone 4S launch.

Of course, we must consider the source. Digitimes is very hit or miss so this must be taken with a grain of salt, just as any pre-launch Apple rumor.

Pegatron is an OEM for both the iPhone 4S and the new iPad so it’s not surprising to hear that it has received orders for a new iPhone. However, the release date seems to be a little suspicious given that Apple likes to stick to a routine.

For instance, the new iPad launched in the same month, March, as the iPad 2. And prior to the launch of the iPhone 4S last October, Apple stayed consistent with its iPhone release dates.

Digitimes also reports that Pegatron has received orders for a new 10-inch iPad which will supposedly be launched in the fourth quarter. Again, that release would not be consistent.

All signs point to an October iPhone 5 launch.

We’ve heard a report peg October as the launch month in the past. We expect the next iPhone to be 4G LTE in nature. One of the iPhone 4S’ original carriers, C-Spire, won’t launch its 4G LTE network until September and it will need some time to test its network. A month perhaps.

In addition, Apple’s next iPhone will likely feature a Qualcomm chip and the chip maker isn’t expected to have a handle on its supply chain until September.

Not much is known about the next iPhone with various rumors flying around about a different sized screen, a new processor, better battery life and some design tweaks that may make it thinner and lighter.
