iPhone 5S vs. iPhone 5 Photos Show Design, Home Button, Camera Details
A new set of iPhone 5S photos appeared online over the weekend, showing a comparison of the iPhone 5S, iPhone 5 and iPhone 5C.
These photos from a Vietnamese tech publication are production mock ups of the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, not real production models from an Apple assembly line.
The photos show a nearly finished iPhone 5S mock up that a case maker could use to test the fit of accessories for a new iPhone, similar to the iPhone engineering sample we uncovered ahead of the iPhone 5 launch.

While these are mock ups of the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, tinhte.vn user sonlazio claims the company that sent them is also responsible for an iPad mini concept that closely matched the iPad mini Apple announced a week later. Many new Apple products appeared on this site before appearing on stage in the hands of Steve Jobs, and it looks like we are seeing the start of a similar treatment.
iPhone 5S vs. iPhone 5 vs. iPhone 5C
The photos below show models for the iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S vs. the iPhone 5. These images first appeared on a Vietnamese tech forum, but the mock ups originated in China at a company who claims to know key iPhone 5S features.
According to the report, phukiengiare.vn believes the iPhone 5S will feature a 12MP camera sensor and 2GB of RAM, but the iPhone 5S processor is not identified.

The image below shows a mock up iPhone 5S, iPhone 5 and mock up iPhone 5C stacked on top of each other. If this mock up is designed to real iPhone 5S specs, we could see a slightly thinner iPhone 5S.

The image above shows what appears to be a slimmer iPhone 5S lightning connection border and a new look for a headphone jack, but this could be simply the parts on hand to make a mock up. There was some speculation on tinhte and BoloPad that the iPhone 5C connection is for a micro USB cable, but that seems unlikely.

The iPhone 5S camera is rumored to see an upgrade to 12MP or 13MP depending on the source. This leak points to a 12MP sensor inside the iPhone 5S. The photo below shows an iPhone 5C, iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S — showing a slightly new flash design for the iPhone 5S.

We’ve seen this iPhone 5S design change rumored before by Macotakara and in other leaks.
iPhone 5S vs. iPhone 5 vs. iPhone 5C Home Buttons
In another photo we see the home button of the iPhone 5S, iPhone 5 and iPhone 5C. The home buttons looks the same as the current iPhone 5, but reports indicate Apple is adding a Sapphire covered home button to house a fingerprint reader. If Apple is keeping the lid tight on this new feature it would make sense that a mockup used by an accessory maker would not fully show such a feature, but an analyst with deep connections to Apple’s supply chain might know more.

We also see several iPhone 5C photos complete with a model number and FCC logo, but a close look shows that these are just lifted from an iPhone 5, and do not reveal new information.

The iPhone 5S launch event is reportedly set for September 10th according to AllThingsD, which claims Apple will use the event to launch the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C. If we are this close to the iPhone 5S launch and release it would make sense to see third-party case companies using mock ups like this to test the fit and finish of cases.
When Apple announces the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, expect a look at new iOS 7 features and an iOS 7 release date soon after. The IOS 7 beta 5 is in use right now, as Apple is expected to release another beta or two before a final release.
The iPhone 5S release could come on September 20th. This would fit the September 10th event timing, allow for iPhone 5S pre-orders on September 13th, an iOS 7 release date on September 18th and a full weekend of iPhone 5S sales before the end of Apple’s last fiscal quarter of 2013.

Plastic? Cheap plastic ?? Are you sure Apple didn’t outsource the 5S to Samsung? I was rather expecting a diamond-coated titanium alloy for the back cover.
