iPhone 6: 4.7-inch vs 5.5-inch Models Compared

Published

on

Apple is expected to launch the all-new iPhone 6 this coming fall, and we’ve already seen plenty of leaked photos of the device alongside the iPhone 5s for comparison. Today, however, more leaked photos have appeared that compare the iPhone 6’s two alleged models side-by-side.

In these photos, the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and the 5.5-inch model are compared side-by-side to one another and show interested parties the difference in size between these two models, which Apple is expected to launch later this year.

The leaked photos come from Sonny Dickson, who has been very reliable in the past about leaked Apple products. Dickson posted two photos to his Twitter account over the weekend, both of which are photos of the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone 6. One photo shows the front of both devices, and the other shows the back.

Furthermore, this is one of the first times that we’re seeing the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 in the flesh. We’ve previously seen plenty of mockups of the 4.7-inch variant, but the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 phablet has remained fairly hidden until now.

The iPhone 6 shown in these photos are very similar to the model that Dickson showed off recently when comparing all of the previous iPhone models side-by-side; it’s the same gold model with the missing Apple logo from the back of the device.

Both the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch models we’re seeing in Dickson’s photos look essentially identical, with the only difference we’re seeing being another small hole to the left of the front-facing camera module on the 5.5-inch model. We’re not exactly what that could be, but possibly another sensor of some kind.

Of course, it’s important to keep in mind that these are likely dummy units and not actual iPhone 6 production models from the assembly line, so we’re still taking it all with a grain of salt, but all of the leaked photos and rumors that we’ve seen and heard over the last couple months seem to come together and match.

Dickson has provided many accurate reports on upcoming Apple products in the past, so while we’d still take this with a grain of salt, we wouldn’t be surprised if the iPhone 6 mockup that he has is close to what we’ll see come later this year when Apple officially launches the new smartphone.

You can obviously tell from the photos that the mockup sports the rumored design that we’ve been hearing about so much, with the rounded edges that remind us of the iPod Touch, but will most likely be implemented to go along with the design of the iPad Air and iPad mini.

One of the big new features that the iPhone 6 will mostly come equipped with is an obvious larger screen, and not just one larger screen, but two larger screens. It’s being heavily rumored that Apple will launch two different iPhone 6 models that will come in different screen sizes — 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch displays. The former would rival traditional smartphones like the Nexus 5 and the Moto X, while the latter would compete with the HTC One Max and Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3.

Furthermore, it’s said that the iPhone 6 will also come with a higher resolution display, with 1704×960 being the agreed-upon resolution, which is a big step up from the iPhone 5s’s 1136×640 screen and will have a higher pixel density than past models.

This resolution size is a bit weird, as it veers off from the standards that we know today, like 1280×720 and 1920×1080, but 1704×960 is exactly triple of what the iPhone’s screen resolution originally was back in 2007 when the smartphone first released, so it makes sense.

The iPhone 6 is expected to arrive at some point later this year, most likely in September just like the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5 release dates, but we’ve seen several sketchy rumors so far that point to an August release.
