iPhone 6 Prototype Gets Faster with Quad-Core, Gains Massive Display

Published

on

There’s no iPhone 5S release, and the iPhone 5 is just finally in stock at Apple and analysts are already talking about the iPhone 6.

The iPhone 6, which would follow an iPhone 5S, is in an investor note by Jefferies analyst Peter Misek this morning, and reposted in part on Business Insider.

Not to leave things with the iPhone 5S, Misek speculates on what Apple could include as iPhone 6 features, claiming, “several iPhone 6 prototypes appear to be floating around.”

Read: iPhone 5S: Dissecting the Best and the Worst of Recent Rumors

On its own, this claims is believable. Apple is undoubtedly working on prototypes of future iPhone models that may or may not se the light of day.

Misek shares some specifics about the iPhone 6, or the next, new iPhone, which would launch in 2014 if Apple maintains an annual release cycle.

iphone-5-review- 8

What an analyst expects in the iPhone 6.

The next, new iPhone could carry the iPhone 6 name and one prototype reportedly features a 4.8-inch display like the Galaxy S III with a Retina+ IGZO display and a new A7 quad-core processor.

Misek also claims the iPhone 5S could see the Retina+ Display, but the larger screen is new for the iPhone 6. This would place a larger display in the hands of users in 18 to 24 months, which would give Apple more than enough time to work out a redesigned iPhone.

There’s no note of it, but perhaps we might see some of the flexible display rumors come to life.

The iPhone 5 uses a dual-core A6 processor. The iPad fourth generation uses a dual-core A6X processor with quad core graphics.

Misek says the iPhone 6 prototype features a new design without a home button. Instead of a home button the iPhone 6 would reportedly use gestures to control the device’s functions.

The iPhone 6 rumors are a bit early and it’s clear that Apple is working on new iPhones, including some we may not see for years.

The 3GS and 4S were just slight upgrades to me but heck time will tell in 18 months we can just cross our fingers!!

But iPhone don’t crash app’s like android… for me, big difference.

iPhone apps do crash. To the extent that there is a difference between platforms, note that we’re talking about the difference between Java, a managed language, and Objective C, which allows, encourages, even requires the programmer to fiddle with pointers. It’s a gun without a safety. A shot in the foot looking for a place to happen. If you’re pro-iOS, I don’t think you want to take the conversation in this direction.

Well… almost EVERYTHING use pointers in Objective-C, so it’s not a big deal. Simply declare everything with a star to the left of the variable name and start coding. If it’s not supposed to be a pointer, Xcode is really good saying “this is wrong, fix it. it should be this way”. It’s easier to code in Objective-C than Java, I think. I learned the basics and started coding in a couple days (which is the time to learn an SDK, not another language).

Only because you can only use app that apple let you, they have total control of what you can and cannot have on your devise…..like……oh yeah microsoft….did they get huge fines for doing that?

Honestly I think apple made a big mistake with the new I phone 5. This is apples 1st 4g phone. Samsung and many other branded companies had 4g phone like 3 versions ago so yes. Apple has a lot of catching up to do. Right now apples plan for the new iphone 6 is making a much bigger screen and a total new design so I really think apple knows they messed up with the outer design of the phone with an oddball display and it being really small. Lets face it. People want bigger phones for playing games taking video ect. I have the note 2 and it is way more powerful than the i phone 5. trust me if you actually owned one you would no to everyone out there shooting it down but doesn’t own it. There is no comparison. The note 2 is far superior and out classes it in every aspect. I do like apple products. I have a macbook pro and i love it because for recording music they are the best. When it comes to smart phones specs don’t lie and the iphone 5 is a bust. The battery life is still terrible. its small and if you drop it the glass will break easier than any samsung that was ever made. Plus i phones have all internal storage so you have to pay so much more for a 64 gig version than you would with a samsung with external storage you can add onto. Apple is doing this with they’re macbooks now where you cant replace ram or hard drives. This is how they make money and dupe everyone into believing apple is the best when they are not. Over seas Iphones dont sell no where near as much as galaxy or other branded smartphones because specs don’t lie and these people do theyre homework and they no that apple iphones arent keeping up with other companies. I would love to see apple expand into at least 2 versions of there iphone like 2 different sizes and a android version of it. Maybe even get some gorilla glass while you are at it. Then they can compete. There is an old saying! If you can’t beat em. Join them.

          It’s apples first LTE* iPhone.
Also apple had 4G(HSPA+) in there 4s. People wetent aware of it till the update witch changed the indecator from 3g to 4g. Even tho companies came out with 4g compatibile phones before the iPhone they weren’t reliably because of how many towers were out. Why would apple throw out a phone in the market where the network hasn’t matured yet? Same goes for the iPhone 5. Even tho others had LTE before the 5 the connection hasn’t matured yet. And comparing the iPhone to a note 2 is child’s play. I have owned both devices. Note 2 requires more power because of the screen and functions that need a lot of power behind it versus the iPhone witch is bloatless and simple so it doesn’t need a lot of power. Come on man it’s common sense why the note 2 packs more power over the 5…… Yet the 5 runs as smooth and quicker then the note 2. I’m not taking sides but you have to consider all aspects when comparing. And the over seas thing everything cost more over seas Lmao.

yes you are correct in some aspect but the iPhone 5 battery is a horror it can only take up to 400 charge after that the more you charge the worse it gets then you will have to buy these big battery pack which makes this beautiful phone look like a big thick brick ,where Samsung don’t have this problem the battery switch is easy just by opening the back cover and voala 100 percent full charged , i have the galaxy s4 and i tell you i see people in Starbucks constantly fighting to sit at the table where the outlet is just so they can get a 10 min charge to turn on the phone to call there loved ones , and i absolutely don’t want to be in that situation , and i tell you i have 2 extra battery which i thought i will need to swap in case of emergency and i don’t even use it, and i use my phone alot , for multitasking , gaming, music , music videos, movies, just like a smart phone should be used , not having iPhone handicap.

Samsung/android out. Iphone/ios in. For the record you can’t really jailbreak android and get bet apps than ios

They do on a phone that does real multitasking. Remember, on a Note 2 you have both the capability and the screen real estate to watch a video, browse, and do messaging and email all at the same time, on the same screen. With 2GB of ram, quad ARM Cortex A9’s, and Android Jellybean 4.1.2, the Note is up to it, whereas the iPhone 5 has not the memory, the processor capacity, nor the UI capability to do anything like that.

Apple has a *lot* of catching up to do to match the current state of top of the line Android phone technology. But I guess if all you do is make calls and check your email iPhone 5 is probably adequate.

EXACTLY architecture is way more important. The quad core 1.5GHZ S3 is slower then the 1.3 GHZ dual core iphone 5.

I agree that the iphone looks nice, except that the morons put fragile glass on the back of it, forcing everyone to get plastic covers to protect it from damage. It is not faster. Retina display has been outdone by HTC DNA.

Gonna tell you this. Don’t you even dare to look down on the iPhone 5 A6 chip. Comparing to the Asia version of the Samsung Galaxy S3 whoch sports a 1.4Ghz QUAD-CORE chip, the iPhone 5 wins the S3. It’s a SHAME to you android fanboys out there.

            04/11/2013 at 3:21 pm

Actually the shame is that you only read apple sites and actually believe the A6 actually out does the Snapdragon. It’s a shame you apple fanboys are so blinded by anything truthful that hurts your apple image. Add that to the fact the iphone lacks the ram adding a nice bottleneck to your phone when it’s truly multitasking.

Iphone’s processor only ‘seems’ faster because it doesn’t have the workload of the Android phones (multitasking, more pixels to power, etc…). Now suppose an Android quadcore was put into an iPhone, the phone would be much faster…think about it.

          Here’s the comparison:

S3: 1.5GHz Dual core or 1.4GHz Quad core cortex A9’s
          i5: 1.3GHz A6

          S3: 1GB or 2GB RAM
          i5: 1GB RAM

S3: 16GB or 32GB storage, expandable to 80GB/96GB via SD
          i5: 16/32/64GB, nonexpandable

          S3: 2100mah user-replaceable battery
          i5: 1440mah nonreplaceable battery

          S3: 4.8″ Super AMOLED screen at a full 720p HD (720×1280) resolution. Contrast: 45000:1
          i5: 4.0″ LCD @ sub-HD 640×1136 resolution. Contrast: 800:1

          S3: Retail on Amazon: $579
          i5: $742

          S3 buyers: Smart
          i5 buyers: Stupid

Issue here is that s3 is really poor quality which makes me worry about s4.
Aside from the resolution, the s2 actually has a better screen than the s3 which leads me to believe they’re starting to cut corners. I’m not an iPhone fan and I don’t really want to get into an iPhone debate here, but the s3 may have a slightly faster processor ( and in some tests actually it doesn’t) but the overall experience is slower. The IPhone may have a lower and “weird” res, but the screen does look better. Battery life on s3 seems to be inferior to Iphone 5 despite it having a larger charge, not sure of the reason – but that’s that.
Samsung Amoled really is inferior to many IPS technologies out, colours are overblown, you can see the grid in the background on their shitty pentile screens (at least on s3).
Considering all these things, why would you get the s4 over the xperia Z?
Xperia Z will have a better screen, unbelievable build quality ( it’s even water proof) with also not the best scratch and damage resistant technology out there… it’s not a plastic pos like the s3. The problem seems to be that we are now getting samsung sheep just as much as iphone sheep. Samsung is chock full of specs but the overall experience is “meh”

For reference I’ve owned: the original droid, iphone 1, Samsung Charge (lol), Htc Incredible and now the S3

S3 nees to improve display ( brightness too dull ) with cheap plastic case.Don’t just look at specifications and compare. Iphone has a reputation of true display ( deep white background color and other phones can not make it including s3,s2.).I5 performance is faster even with ratinfg specs lower than others in comparison.
Let’s go to electronic stores and compare apple’s products with other and it gives you some ideas how to achieve a real color background ( white’s ) compared to any other’s.
Obviously to see, open any web’s browser and see what a big different between Apple’s products and other’s.

I believe HTC One is also a good competitor. HTC has been making good phones. HTC One is a thing of beauty! I do believe Apple had the best built phones and I think HTC may have just matched Apple on that aspect. I hate iPhone bcz ever since the very first iPhone they always looked almost the same. The iPhone hasn’t changed much due to it being the most efficient design for a ‘phone’ the trouble with these 5″ phones is that they are great as entertainment devices but don’t work as well as phones with a 4″ screen. I’m currently writing a blog called a month with Android and I’ve noted that a lot of the time I used to use my iPhone one handed while eating for example. This isn’t really feasible with larger phones.

Anyone find it funny that almost all the iPhones can run ios6? Think about it. How can a single core 500 mb phone run the latest os? Why? Because iOS hasn’t changed! They add a pull down and say “look what we did!” And fanboys eat it up. Honestly they could call the iPhone 5 the 5s… And people would buy it. And… Say look how much faster my 5s is then a 5! Amazing! Soooo funny. Bahhhhh sheep lol

Apple designs the processors unlike other companies so the performance is higher in the iPhone than in other smartphones. Just google it and you will see the benchmarks. It’s important to put a lot of RAM, powerful processors and so on but those should be optimized because otherwise the device might waste a lot of resources or not be able to take full advantage of it

      • Steve Bergman

        01/13/2013 at 10:44 am

As a webmaster I can tell you exactly what Apple does. They cut corners in Safari to get better benchmark numbers. Unfortunately, this involves flagrantly violating the http standard. When I put up a new ecommerce site, or anything with dynamic content, I have to put in hacks to make Safari work properly, since it ignores meta tag requests, and even per page http header requests not to cache particular content. It pretty much just caches everything, not even checking to see if a page has been updated.

i.e. Safari is fast… but it doesn’t work. Typical scenario. Put 2 items in your shopping cart. Delete 1. (It doesn’t disappear, but there is no error displayed.) Check out. Unless the application programmer is very careful, the Safari user will end up with both items since the request to delete the item never actually got sent. I always expect complaints from Safari users when I put up a new site. The real problem, of course, is that they’re using a thoroughly broken browser. I take the trouble to apply work-arounds. Not everyone does. All the other major browsers just work, without fuss.

So anyone who uses Mobile Safari really should move to something else. But then their browser performance goes down the toilet due to the limited hardware platform they are running. So it’s really a no-win situation.

the iphone is not outdated. steve i guarantee you that the only reason people hoped to the galaxy s3 is because the iphone looked the same thats it your a fool to say that people realized somehing, they havent shit, they dont know what their buying, and the deaths over creating phones happens to every company people like you just target apple because you want more android followers. as for the price of the iphone goes ok 200 to make and 700 to sell. thats how apple makes money. the galaxy s3 also sells for 650 off contract and with shity materials its made from like that unibody plastic i could find in a dumpster i wouldnt be surprised if it onlly cost like 120 to make it. the iphone is a great phone, all the hardwares clocked down to save battery and im fine with that i only have to charge my phone every 2 days. ive owned a s3 that thing needed 2 charges a day but they both still perform equally thats funny right? as it goea for ios its made with simplicity anyone can run it even a 2 year old they believe in a simple software. but if you give an android to a kid or grandpa theyll be like wtf how do you work this. 01/16/2013 at 5:19 am

Samsung manufactures the (outdated) A6 processor and SoC used by Apple in the iPhone (while using more modern CPU’s and SoC’s in their own devices). But the actual assembly is done by the Taiwanese company, Foxconn, best known for its extremely high rate of employee suicide (some of which are directly related to iPhone manufacture) and more than just occasional employee riots (also related to iPhone manufacture).

The iPhone is literally killing people and causing great strife. iPhone owners care nothing about all that, as long as their Apple fashion accessory garners them the attention they desire.

The cost of manufacture of an iPhone 5 is known to be $207 USD + some fraction of a human life. They sell for $750 after the 262% markup Apple applies. The outdated CPU, SoC, and small, last generation LCD display make for a phone which is fairly inexpensive to manufacture these days. Especially as Apple is good at keeping the labor costs down.

I’d be embarrassed to have an iPhone if it were only for the price/performance aspect. But as things stand, I’d actually be quite ashamed to own one. But again, iPhone owners don’t seem to care.

There is no use in continuing this discussion by talking which hardware is better (btw the a6 soc is not outdated but they kept it on a lower clockspeed to save battery) and as all of you may know that the performance of their processor in combination with their os is equal in performance compared to i.e. The galaxy SIII and please stop saying it isnt all benchmarks come to the same conclusion that those two devices are the top of the market and equal in performance however the os in the galaxy sIII is in a way superiour over ios (if you do not care about security and privacy issues that google has, especially in europe) and no dont say it is a secure system as I said if you give me just your phone number, I can show you how secure those devices are and again dont compare the note with a smaller handheld because it is obvious that the size of the device makes better hardware possible it would be like comparing laptops with tablets. And yes maybe it falls under the same category but still ios is not better than android nor is android better than ios. Ios is known for its tight security and android for its great compatibility.

Now if I was moderator I would have closed this topic because it is a post about the new iPhone and not about how iphones and ios suck compared to samsung and android. So please stay on topic and second saying one os is betten than the other one is a pointless discussion as it would when you compare two different car models (one may prefer one over the other and vice versa) so continuing saying which one is better is pointless because it is only better when a person thinks it is better him or herself. You may find something great (i.e. The galaxy note) the other may find it too large and may dislike the design. It is a preference and lets keep it that way or the world would be a boring place if everyone have the same items same clothes same devices etc etc.

You sound like a broken record, claiming over and over that everyone except you is a blind fanboy. I’ve posted direct comparisons of hardware and measured performance, which you’ve ignored. And I’m still within the time-frame to take my GN2 back and get an iPhone 5, if I wanted to. I’d even save a few dollars with Verizon. I’m not in the least tempted, because it would be a *big* step down from what I’ve gotten used to. Android is a better phone, and a better value. And apparently 5 out of 6 people agree, these days.

You see, I’m far from the only one noticing that iPhone is not a very good value proposition and voting with my feet. In case you hadn’t noticed, 2012 was a sea-change year. The bottom fell out of Apple’s iPhone sales, despite the release of iPhone 5. From a strong starting position in 2011, iPhone had dropped to 14.9% of smartphone shipments by Q3 2012, as Android marketshare ascended past 75%. Android finished the year *way* up with a market share of 68% for the entirety of 2012. So to the extent that it’s “just a matter of taste” as you argue… tastes do seem to be changing rapidly, and not in Apple’s favor. I’d be more inclined to say that it’s a matter of education and getting past the facade/mystique generated by a top notch marketing department.

BTW, in the context of a reasonably well designed frequency/voltage governor, it makes zero sense to underclock a processor if the goal is to save battery. That simply results in a “race to idle” condition (Look it up.) which ends up using *more* battery. This has been discussed extensively on LKML, and the situation is no different for iOS. The only valid reason to underclock a processor is inadequate cooling. If they’ve underclocked the A6, it’s likely the CPU in the iPhone 5 doesn’t have enough cooling to reliably handle full clock speed.

Steve the only one ignorant is you I never said that apple was better I only say that it is preference and no more advanced doesnt necessarily means better maybe for you but I know many people that find googles os confusing (not talking about myself) but the reason why you are so ignorant is that you continue to see the note as a phone which 80% of the people dont and I will repeat again that you are talking in the wrong topic it is a iPhone topic not an android or samsung topic. It would be the same if I would talk about how great volvos are on a volkswagen forum.

          • Jimz

            01/17/2013 at 6:23 am

You’re the only one that is ignorant I will repeat this is a iPhone topic not a android or samsung is better than topic. Next specs matter so does preference and yes I find the latest samsung devices too large and very girly but like I said that is preference. Nobody actually cares how many specs you can compare with other phones yes YOU prefer to have a almost tablet size with you. I and many others dont. And I’ll remind you again that stating one is better than the other is always a pointless discussion. And again it is a iPhone discussion, what you are doing is the same as talking about how great volvos are on a volkswagen forum.

Stay on topic I don’t care how much you know about technology, we talk iPhone here, samsung galaxy and android have their own respective topics.

Samsung phones are quite good, but the fact is the iPhone is a status symbol for the rich and upwardly mobile whereas the GS3 is a the phone for the masses. There is room for both companies to prosper.

Apple’s processor performance is definitely not higher. Think about it: iPhone 5 is only one to two seconds faster than the S3 (in the few tasks that it actually is faster) even though it doesn’t have to power a bigger, higher res display or do ‘real’ multitasking. Add those two factors to iPhone 5’s workload and it’s few second speed advantage would become a more-than-a-few-seconds speed disadvantage.

android is such a heavy OS it needs twice the specs as iphone to run as smooth as iPhone does, oh can Smarts phones basically already are computers, hence the main board, CPU ram graphics card etc.. not much of a tech are you? your PPI remarks are also invalid, as bigger screens will naturally have a more dense PPI meaning higher number, a bigger PPI in a bigger screen doesnt mean it will look any better. Apple came up with the idea of the retina display Phone manufacturers are just using the same tech that Apple asked its display makers to come up with.

There’s definitely a place for inexpensive Android phones. Buy them for the whole family on a shoestring budget. Or buy a really nice one for your spouse. Or get the kids inexpensive ones and a midrange for yourself. On the other hand, with Apple, selection is limited. Prices are high. And functionality is middle of the road. iPhones for a family of 4? $1000 please, on contract. $3000 unlocked.

And wow. I just came from a panel session vid discussing poor access to quality food for low income families since, e.g. whole grain pasta is priced a dollar a box higher than refined pasta. These discussions about the “merits” of iPhones take place in a bizarrely different world from the reality for most families.

although the numbers are higher for your specs thats doesnt mean its better. check online apple 1.2ghz dual core out preforms all of the snapdragon s4 clocked at 1.5ghz or higher at quadcore. and the apples retina still looks better. these are all facts look em up. apple still out preforms cuz it knows had to make components and operating systems run together easily, android just throws everything together and covers it up with shitty plastic exterior. knowa facts and not just numbers.

      • Steve Bergman

        01/27/2013 at 11:07 am

Right. That’s why the bottom has dropped out of iPhone’s once-dominant market share. Apple is down to 14.9%. Android is up to 75%. The people have spoken. Former iPhone owners voted with their feet when the disappointment that was iPhone 5 was unveiled. And the market, in general, is voting with their dollars, buying the phones they find to be the superior values: Android phones.

The developer community is following. It’s hard enough to make a living writing mobile apps without clinging to a dying market. Nobody is going to continue to develop for a platform that’s dropped below 15% share and is declining rapidly.

If you have an iPhone 5 then you were foolish to buy it. If you have an iPhone 4 or 4s… well… then it’s time for you to recognize how the landscape has changed. As someone else noted earlier, today the iPhone is for the elderly. Savvy consumers have moved on from it.

        • Jeff

          01/28/2013 at 3:46 am

The truth is that there will always be those that buy an iPhone ONLY because it is an Apple product. Your numbers, however, obviously show that most previous iPhone owners are starting to see the light.

Even if there was an iPhone model that I thought was equal to my SGS3, I would still go with Android over iOS. Also, with what they’re talking about coming on the S4, I would imagine it’ll be 2 or 3 years before the iPhone gets there. By then, of course, Android, and the supporting hardware will again be that much more advanced.

I just saw that Big Brother removed the extremely popular 500px app (if you’re into photography) from the App Store. I couldn’t deal with their ‘we decide everything for you’ attitude. You would think that the app must have surely been for pedophiles or something else despicable.

Pay too much for a less-than-cutting-edge product, and then let Apple decide, totally, what you can do with it. Obviously, we’re at the mercy of the manufacturers and carriers, but Apple is just too much. Their philosophy just isn’t going to work any longer, the numbers are showing that.

With Jobs no longer there to work the Voo-Doo magic, the spell is starting to wear off.

        • JT

          01/28/2013 at 8:31 am

          Steve ~

You are really not informed very well. The reason Android has 75% of the market is that they offers smart phones from $100 up. Apple only goes after the high end of the market $400-800. If you only count phones in that price range you will find Apple ahead of Android…… and Apple make 75% of all smart phone profits. Chew on that for a while.

        • Will Woodhouse

          01/28/2013 at 9:48 pm

Sorry Mr Bergman but I’ve never read such nonsense in all my life. Of course Android has a larger market share. Apple sells 3 iPhones, in contrast there are literally 100’s of Android phones.

As for developers, again you clearly don’t know what you’re talking about. Most apps are first developed for iOS, android second. This is because writing apps for iOS is more lucrative. Android users tend to be cheap and don’t like paying for apps. Android is also a nightmare to develop for in comparisson to iOS due to fragmentation. How many tablet optimized Android apps are there for example.

Apple is suffering from increased competition, this is good. They are also suffering users getting a bit bored and being fickle. iOS is looking a little dated these days, however, should you change something just to make it flashy and new? Or is functionality more important?

Devices like the Note II appeal to geeks. The kind of people to whom size and numbers matter. Yes you can watch a movie, and write an email at the same time, but my brain doesn’t work like that, it wants to watch a movie or send an email, doing both reduces the concentration on both. I can watch a movie and write an email on my computer but I don’t for the reason stated. A product is more than benchmarks and specifications. It’s about the user experience and in this department Apple are unrivaled. They understand that ‘good enough’ isn’t good enough. When you use an Apple product you understand you are using something of quality, an experience you just don’t get on Android and never will.

In 2010, the market might have supported your assertion. But as of the end of 2012 / beginning of 2013, 85+% consumers disagree with you. Over 75% are choosing Android for their phones. 14.8% are choosing apple. Windows market share was up by a factor of 3 last year. From 0.7% to 2%. There’s a real possibility of iPhone dropping to the #3 slot by this time next year.

by the time the iphone 6 drops in 2014, ANDROID and MICROSOFT devices will be well ahead of the curve and the bar that iphone once set. “The structure of the building is still intact thanks to Apple and the great mind of Steve Jobs but the floors of that building (mobile phones) are being restructured by Android and Microsoft. Apple may own the lease (patents) of that building (mobile phone designs) but they are no longer the juggernaut of innovative mobile technology anymore. That flame went out when Jobs passed. Apple will definitely continue to push out great products, but not innovative products that we thought we’d never have a use for (i.e. the first generation iphone / ipad). For now and the near future belongs to Android and Microsoft (the more tech-saavy users) and Apple will always have the “mom and dad” users ……and grandma ……and grandpa.

        • Steve Bergman

          12/27/2012 at 12:51 pm

I’m quite doubtful about your claims. How much of it did you make up? How much did you overstate? What images did you flash your phone with, “tech nut”?

Missed calls, from time to time, do occur with any carrier. When you’re in an area with poor reception, you’ll miss calls with your new phone, too. As you say you’re currently on honeymoon with your new phone. So I won’t press the matter. I’m on honeymoon with my GN2.

I will note, however, that one thing I’ve noted about my iPhone-toting friends is that after they call, there’s a tendency for me to get a ringback a few minutes later, treating me to about 3 minutes of the sounds of their daily lives as heard from inside their pockets. Whatever easy-redial feature causes that, you might want to turn off.

        01/07/2013 at 5:33 am

Nope, he’s right. Architecturally the S4 pro is by far the most advanced chip ever made. And the Adreno 320 is on par or very close to Apple’s GPU which was really their only powerful piece of hardware. Apple’s components lag far behind Android’s and they cover it up with a good camera, well built chassis, and a stale, but light and well-optimized UI that is in my opinion incredibly weak and doesn’t compare to Android 4.1 or 4.2. One thing I hate about Apple is all their “magical” and “superior” crap that they use as a selling point. There’s nothing amazing about the “A6” processor, it’s just a Cortex-A9 built by ARM that they renamed and added a strong GPU to make it seem like it was their own. The Note II, Droid DNA and Nexus 4 all demolish the iPhone 5 in benchmarks, With the Droid DNA being especially powerful, almost doubling the iPhone’s processing power

You are wrong. Google was writing Android to exactly ape Blackberry, until then-Google CEO Eric Schmidt became aware, as an Apple board member, of Apple’s work on the iPhone and iOS. He immediately told Android programmers to start work on a touch-interface operating system designed to work like Apple’s. Google even hired a couple of Apple’s iPhone programmers. These are facts. You can look it up.

@Patrick. Could you please link to some of benchmark tests, to prove your statements?. The ones I have found, incl. https://www.anandtech.com/show/6440/google-nexus-4-review/3

It’s clearly iPhone who is fastest..

I hardly see that this metric matters either way. The UI on my GN2 responds instantly. There is simply never any noticeable delay.

People go on about the strangest things. Processor speed… when it doesn’t matter in the real world. Slight differences in dot-pitch… on screens with pixel densities 2 or 3 times higher than the human eye can resolve.

For real use in the real world, doing the kinds of things we’d like to be able to do on our phones rather than our desktops, next-generation phones need bigger screens and better input methods. Like a minimum 5.5″ screen with S-Pen. Not just a more-of-the-same iPhone “5s-2”.

Steve Jobs said that the pen is dead. Amusingly, the pen is looking to be the future, and it’s Steve Jobs who’s dead.

Yes he past away, it’s a fact of life some earlier than others, You wont be known nor will have achieved milestones what Steve and his team accomplished. The way I look at it’s nice to dream of super Smartphones with this and that vs this and that, but really it’s got to come down to what you like, trash talk is simple and will never get you anywhere. the great thing is that people are different from one another and have their own opinions, personally i cant be asked to spend loads of money each year to upgrade or pay monthly bills to show off new devices, money is better off spent helping people of need. I look up to the likes of Lieon Messi who’s done incredibly well, and yet so humble! why cant the rest of the world be the same. Buying flash things don’t make you any better than the poor kid down the road who doesn’t own shoes yet alone a Smartphone. In the end who really cares, I like Apples simple approach and it’s great that you like Android, I don’t own one of the latest devices, other needs comes first, i rather be doing sport and spending time with my children, rather than looking down on a device most of the time everyday…

Dude, if you read you’d see that those are all GPU and Browser benchmarks. If you want to know which phone is “fastest” you have to do a complete benchmark like GeekBench 2. I have to hand it to Apple, their GPU is incredible and their browser is second to none, and those are the two things that make the iPhone SEEM much faster and snappier than most phones, when, in fact, if it comes to CPU-governed tasks and more demanding applications, the iPhone 5 performs…well, but not as well as a lot of Android phones

4.8″ screen on their next generation device? I find the 5.5″ screen on my GN2 to be adequate, but none too large. I guess the iPhone 6 would be OK for people who mainly just make calls and occasionally check their email. But for real use? Don’t think so.

LOL that you think it should take “10” reasons. I’ll start off:

          1. Watch HD movies.

          2. Browse the web effectively.

          3. Be truly productive with an office suite.

          4. Compose emails without having to apologize about the brevity and poor quality by pleading “I sent this from my cell phone”.

          5. Multitask effectively, with multiple apps on a single screen, complete with drag ‘n drop, etc.

There’s 5 to get us started. I’m sure you’ll claim your iPhone can do some of these things. But I’ve used both iPhone 5 and Galaxy Note 2, you see. And there is *no* comparison. iPhone 5 is a joke compared to high end Android.

Look. You made a mistake. You bought your phone for the logo, expecting that people were going to be in awe of it. And now you find that people are just laughing at you. It’s embarrassing to you. That’s understandable.

But you’ll be able to correct your mistake, eventually. And you’ll be a happier person for it.

          Sincerely,
          Steve Bergman

Yes Steve, you can do these things because you bought a small tablet. It’s like comparing an RV to a sports car. If I want an RV I’ll buy an RV.

I’ve got another one for you though.

I don’t get it either. I much prefer the smaller form factor of my iPod Touch 5 to my Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX, and I do intend to replace it with the iPhone 5 (or maybe 5S, depending on when I make the change), just because I much prefer the much smaller form factor, the smaller bezel on the edges of the screen and its smaller thickness.

Also, I have an iPod Touch 5 and Droid RAZR MAXX, as I said before, and I’ve ended up using my iPod for everything (mostly music, Instagram, all of my mobile games, the camera (despite my RAZR MAXX’s camera being much better), Tumblr, Netflix and so on), and I use it more for many reasons. My iPod Touch has a much easier and cleaner OS (the lack of widgets and the simple home screen etc. is actually something I like more) and the device is just a lot smaller and feels more solid in the hand and so on.

I am a bit wary of the fact that the Droid RAZR MAXX is supposed to have one of the best smartphone batteries on the market, but I know iPhones still have decently good batteries, and the fact is that I just don’t use my Android for anything but calling and occasional texting. It doesn’t feel as comfortable in the hand, the OS isn’t nearly as usable (in my opinion) and it’s also not as smooth as iOS (and that’s on an iPod Touch 5, and from what I’ve seen, it’s even better on the iPhone 5) and I enjoy its small size.

I don’t like the big-screened devices at all. For me, there’s definitely a sweet spot, and I think all those huge Samsung Galaxies and Notes are a bit too big for my taste.

Admit it, we all know iPhone is best smartphone ever despite the fact it has a small screen compared to many other smartphones. The screen size doesn’t matter at all, because it’s about performance. Look, iPhone 5 has a dual core processor compared to many of it’s competitors which have quad core processors, the iPhone is still much much faster and another thing is iOS. It’s smooth, simple and very simple. I’ve had a GS2 and it had a nice screen but I have to say Android is not as smooth and simple as iOS. How much better wouldn’t the iPhone be if they replaced the A6 dual core processor with a quad core one?

I dont get all the Apple fan boy’s. They are saying Android sucks and my S2 and/or S3 sucks too. Well yea, Ice Cream Sandwich is the one that actually started to change anything. Jellybean added the project butter and runs smoother than the iphone (in my opinion). I had a iPhone 3GS and the 4. I just recently switched to the Galaxy Note 2 and I have no remorse over the switch. I still love my iPad and all but I don’t think Apple has that innovation like it once did. They will slightly add more things but Android by far will be better at adding new things and staying with modern things. It took this long to finally get 4G LTE and who knows until the iPhone gets NFC. Most of you dont know how awesome it is to use it until you do. I thought it was useless but I use it at least 3-4 times a day. And swiftkey is amazing on this GN2

It’s important to notice what you had to do in your post to be fair to Apple. You started out talking about phones, but after mentioning the Galaxy Note 2, you had also to include Apple’s tablets in the discussion. Not only does Apple have no single device that can compete with Galaxy Note 2… they don’t even have a set of 2 devices, the sum of whose features can compete with it.

Add to that, Apple fanboys have this strange idea that they dump a lot of money into a phone and it will always be the best. In this industry “best” lasts about 3 months if you buy early and are very lucky. And the rest of the Industry is moving past Apple’s stagnated offerings as if it were standing still… which it pretty much is.

Pretty case… but not much inside…. like many iPhone owners.

      • Seriously?

Do you like how apple fanboys act? I believe not.

However, I can’t find anything my iphone doesn’t do that I need to be productive (or not so productive). Plus, it works. I’m saying that as someone who had an SIII (and BB among others)

I would like windows phone 8 to take both powerhouses of google and ios down. While all of you talk specs and build quality you cease to recognize that wp7 ran smoother than ios and android considerably with 1 core. The iphone is a very sleek phone but so is the lumia 920 and htc 8x with a wide range of colors. The only reason why windows phone is not succeeding is most consumers throw their support to google and apple, destroying innovation of smaller rising companies in the process.

MS has been trying for years and years… and has failed dismally. Even Canonical has a better shot at it with Mobile Ubuntu than does MS with Windows. (And they don’t have a snowball’s chance in Hell.) Nobody wants Windows phones. Not the manufacturers. Not the carriers. Not the users.

    01/11/2013 at 12:40 pm

Some of you are real android fanboys and some of you are apples.

To start, processor speed and ram doesnt mean a thing if the os is not optimised for it. I saw someone mention that he bought a cheap android and that it would make a big difference if he would buy an expensive one. I have tested many of these android phones and other than speed, resolution and screen size they all work the same way. Like iOs for iPhone.

Now the apple fanboys are right the iphone 5 scores the most points in almost every benchmark (hence the 1.2 ghz processor) iOs has a much better energy control and resulted in a few hours more usage than any other smartphone around. Second what we musnt forget is that apple have a closed os which means less virusses (as android is reported everywhere on the internet as nest for virusses and malware). A higher processor speed makes it more power hungry as well, and the most important issue on smartphones for the majority of the people is battery life. Nobody wants to charge their phone 3 times a day. Next thing to say is that though you have the possibility to multitask on your note we can not define the note as a real smartphone. They only appeal to some people and is mostly a gadget than a real life usable smartphone, do you see people make phonecalls with them often? Probably not so leave the note out of the review. Now the problem with android is that it is not a user friendly os, yes and many people will say that it is not true but they are younger and learn quickly i.e. give your dad at the age of 60 a android phone and he might know how to use the very basics of that os. Give him an iPhone and I can assure you that he will even know how to use the appstore and many other functions.

To conclude: both of them are great Oses but even though you may say apple is behind in os, think about this, do you choose for mega features (that probably not even 5% of the average people will use or will you choose for simplicity and most important security? As ios is far more secure than android. (I will leave wp8 out as it is too soon to talk about their security).

So its not a question of what is better, it is a question of preference.
Anyways the iPhone 5 is considered as the best performing smartphone available at the moment in many aspects.

    • Steve Bergman

      01/11/2013 at 2:02 pm

There is so much wrong with your post that it’s hard to know where to start in correcting you. Firstly, while I see not a single example of an iPhone advocate presenting specifics on the comparative real world capabilities of iPhone 5 vs specific Android-based phones, I do see examples posted by those who’ve decided in favor of an Android-based phone. In fact, I myself responded to a request for a list of activities which can handled demonstrably better by an Android-based phone than with any available iPhone.

That raises the next issue. You’ve fallen into the trap of comparing iPhone with Android. This is nonsensical. Like must be compared with like. One can compare an iPhone 5 with a specific $49 Android phone, and that’s fine. One can compare iPhone 5 with a Galaxy Note 2, and that’s fine. The iPhone 5 may (or may not) win in features against the former. And the iPhone 5 suffers a complete slaughter when compared to the latter (which is still less expensive than the iPhone 5, btw). There are just things that people want to do on their phones that you can’t do with a tiny 4″ last generation LCD screen with a sub-HD (and nonstandard) resolution. Things that you *can* do on a reasonably sized screen like the Galaxy Note’s 5.5″ HD720 screen, or Droid DNA’s 4.8″ full HD (1920×1080) screen.

Also, I’d like you to present links to the “most benchmarks” showing iPhone 5’s last-generation 1.3GHz dual ARM A6 outperforming the Galaxy Note 2’s Quad ARM Cortex A9’s running at 1.6GHz. Or the Droid DNA’s even faster quad-core 1.7GHz SoC. And doing it with a tiny 1GB ram, vs 2GB for the other phones, to wit. To my knowledge, there is nothing on the market that touches the DNA’s benchmarks scores, or real-world performance. Especially as it runs Jellybean out of the box.

I’d also like to see you defend the claim about proprietary operating systems being inherently more secure. That’s *certainly* not the way things played out on desktops and servers, where Windows is at the bottom, and the various OSS Unix-like OSes are at the top with regards to real-world security performance.

I’d also like to see you defend your claim that iPhone, with its (non-replaceable) 1440mah battery gets better battery life than, say, the Galaxy Note 2 with its 3100mah battery. (Again, don’t compare a $750 phone with a throw away phone without being explicit about what you’re doing. If iPhone wants to play with the big boys it needs to be compared against the big boys).

There’s far more wrong with your post. But that should be enough to keep you busy defending at least a few of your claims.

I think what you were after was finding some way to say “it’s just a preference thing” while tossing out enough diversionary crap to make that seem like an informed and impartial viewpoint. But the fact of the matter is that there is enough difference between iPhone 5 and high end Android phones that it’s *not* just a matter of preference. It’s obvious and clear as day to those who keep themselves informed in this area.

There are objective points of superiority in favor of individual high end Android phones as compared to iPhone. And iPhone has trouble claiming any victories, these days… unless you count fashion. If you’re the sort of person who likes to wear and show off expensive jewelry in public, then iPhone has a valid strength in that area. But that’s not a technical advantage. And not one that many mobile phone owners outside the Apple sphere seem to care much about, in my experience.

Thank god, someone who knows a thing or to, apple products are great, BUT they are fashion accessories, most people buy apple because its apple, they couldnt tell you what it does different, im willing to bet most people cant list the differences between the 4s and the 5 other than the screen, and even if they do mention the inards i can almost assure you that they couldnt tell you the main benefits, iphone 5 was a release that caught up with current gen handsets at that time, there was nothing new, nothing innovative and nothing other than a larger screen to make it any better than the 4s, oh…… bet most apple fanboys didnt realize that samsung made the cpu right upto the a6…….you know..the one in your iphone 5…… so much fail from apple fans, phone geeks know the score but these tools will never learn

Ok bergman I agree with you that I should not compare android with iphone so I will state it differently, as ios is only available on the iphone (or ipad/ipod) i mentioned iphone instead of ios. Second to that you are very much right that many people couldnt tell the difference between the iphone 4 and 4s (or even the 5 or 3g for that matter). Second it is true that the iphone battery is irreplacable but I wrote this with european standards which means that if the battery dies within 2 years it should be covered by the factory warranty (which is 2 years by law in the EU). I live in a country where 88% of the inhabitants have a smartphone (being 45% with high end models) and 93% have a continuous internet connection. So to clear myself from last post, I ment the high end models, ofc a cheap android model shouldnt be compared to the iphone. But lets say i compare high end android models. Ok now back to security you are right when looking to windows, however they were at the beginning of all, nowadays windows security has gotten much better, android is new and I get it that it is not easy to control the security of an open os, and dont get me wrong google has done a great job, but it is 2013 now and security is very important these days as cybercrime is commited more often, and I think that google did not prepare for that very well. As I read last week that android virusscanners only find 20% of the malware. It is ofc obvious that most malware is made for android as it is the most used os for mobile devices. But you compared this with windows which is not really fair, apple never had so many mac users as microsoft had with windows. However apple does have a good base for smartphone users now and still most apps come out for ios first. It has/had not sure the most apps in their appstore so you would most likely say that malware would be massively created for ios (but apple have strict rules). To continue on android devices and samsung in particular, I have a code to remotely factory reset the samsung s2 and s3 (and because this bug is hardware related there wont be a fix for that). I would never use it because I respect other people and their values. Still dont get me wrong Android is a great os and the UI and many other things are much better than ios (and personally I think that apple should change their OS fast or redesign it if they want to stay in the game, because one thing is true it is outdated, other than that the os does have little to less bugs)

Android is a great os and ios is but the design a very good os.

Another thing i have to agree on is that the iphone 5 is a completely useless upgrade to the 4s other than a larger screen and design. But I am not talking to those fanboys, cause you could say anything to them but they will stick to samsung or apple or nokia anyways.

Oh all of that said Im looking forward to this years line up with the new iphone the new galaxy and not to forget the upcoming lumia series (which has a great chance to regain market share if developers are willing to work with wp8)

All in all I do not want to bash android as it is a superb os but needs work just as apple needs to redesign their UI. Both of them are great OSes (remember I talk for high end models only now) but both of them serve different kinds of people and features. But still one thing I can say is that android is more ment for younger people if we talk about user friendlyness.

And btw dont think im an apple fan haha, if samsung changes their design for the s4 i might get it, but their s3 is horribly ugly (unless you are a woman) haha no need to comment on this it is just a personal preference. I had several htc phones and it is dissapointing to see that even their flagship does not work flawless, horrible batterylife and lots of bugs (which are caused by their sense ui).

For people that are looking for a new high end smartphone right now please go for one of these as you will be safe for at least a year (this market moves at rocket speed)
        – Samsung Galaxy SII
        – Samsung Galaxy SIII
        – I will not mention the galaxy note in this as the screen is soo big that most people do not consider this a smartphone
        – iPhone 4s
        – iPhone 5
        – and in a less way the nokia lumia 920

My tips for everyone, never get a HTC as their screens break quick and they are very buggy (except for the classic HD2). Never get a blackberry, blackberrys are great however outdated, no apps, generally slow, and extremely bad touchscreens. One other last thing you said to not compare the cheap models wirh the high end ones, I saw you making a comparison iphone 5 with galaxy note 2 it is ofc obvious that it has more hardware as the device is twice as large and second to that, the galaxy note is not a smartphone, it has its own user base and is a device that actually has its own category.

        • Steve Bergman

          01/11/2013 at 4:06 pm

The Galaxy Note 2 is a Smart Phone. (“Phablet” is a meaningless marketing term.) Yes, I know you’ll find early review articles claiming that it’s not a phone. Also, that it’s a niche device. But that was before it sold 5 million units in the 1st 3 months. The honest reviewers are admitting they were wrong. I have a GN2. It fits easily in my pockets. (Front, back, shirt, coat.) It’s a Smart Phone, not a tablet. It’s just able to do things that no other Smart Phone currently can. (Which is why I bought it instead of something else after doing my research.) It’s just my phone, and I can’t imagine anyone who’s actually used one not considering it to be a phone.

Regarding security… in general OSS is a plus since security vulnerabilities get discovered and shaken out fast. Any additional “security” that code secrecy imparts is “security through obscurity”, which is no more than a false sense of security. Real security is when the security implementation is out in the light for all to see, and still holds. Who knows what secrets crackers know about with respect to closed OSes that they don’t talk about outside of private channels?

Android’s sandboxing security model is superior to iOS’s. But the vast majority of exploits are social exploits, which are virtually impossible to prevent without depriving the phone owner of freedom. That’s the approach taken by Apple. And it “works”, after a fashion. They maintain an iron grip upon what the user has access to. In contrast, in the Android ecosystem, the user can install non-PlayStore apps should he or she choose. And it is the owner’s responsibility to pay attention to the issues of what they install, what privileges they grant, and how much they should trust the app source.

Those who would sacrifice Freedom for a little security deserve neither, and all that. People need practice in making responsible decisions. Ultimately, Apple’s “Big Brother” strategy breeds security-ignorant users. (And is also very good for Apple’s business.)

Regarding “virus scanners”, I refuse to discuss such things as if they are really security tools. The need for such things is a symptom of the real problem. And in this case (and to the extent to which security is a problem in the thriving Android ecosystem, any estimate of which is… debatable) the issue is about user-responsibility.

One other thing. Your blanket classification of those of us who are not young as dullards is offensive. I’m in my 6th decade, and fairly new to Smart Phones. But I did my research. Made a decision on the GN2. Decided that the Samsung-provided TouchWiz interface was not to my liking. (And was also a bit more locked down than I prefer.) Switched to CyanogenMod 10. And am currently taking a break, as I compose this post, from finishing up my first Java/Android App. (It concatenates a secret string with the domain name of the site I’m browsing and produces a unique hash for use as a password on the site.)

I think most of us oldsters can handle either Android or iOS without frying our brains too badly, whipper-snapper. ;-)

“I’d also like to see you defend the claim about proprietary operating systems being inherently more secure. T”hat’s *certainly* not the way things played out on desktops and servers, where Windows is at the bottom, and the various OSS Unix-like OSes are at the top with regards to real-world security performance.”

Unix like OSes… like….. OSX? and iOS is built off that so..

I don’t know how I stumbled on this site but this Steve Bergman has no credibility whatsover in this text based fray. From ignoring benchmarks that I checked out myself to saying silly statements like the one above.

Looks like an interesting new Android phone has been released. The Huawei Ascend Mate. 6.1″ in screen. (Galaxy Note 2 is 5.5″) And nobody is calling it anything but what it is: a phone. Consistently, people have wanted big screens. In 2 years time, no one will bat an eye about Android phones with screens larger than 5″.

I hope Apple owners don’t mind being constantly reminded that they have a small one.

  30. Alexander Morris

    01/13/2013 at 10:07 pm

First off… Quit down the fanboyism for android and apple… I like both of the products that android and apple has to offer. Why oh why do people moan and complain about specs… Get what you like and be over with it… Personally i’d rather use a simple phone… How often do people actually talk on their phone? Probably not as often as they use it for the internet. Get a tab for browsing, and get a cheaper phone for talking. This will save you much money or go with boost mobile phones, which are android at the moment.

    • Steve Bergman

      01/13/2013 at 11:58 pm

Specs matter. And while you may be happy lugging around multiple devices… a Boost phone for talking, a tablet for browsing, a calculator for calculating, a Kindle for reading, an organizer for your address book… that doesn’t make much sense. Some of us prefer to have one device of the right size and capability to do it all, which we can carry with us everywhere, without the need for a brief case to house them. Even just tablet and phone is 1 device too many. And face it, even the tablet is not something you’re going to have with you most of the time. But a 4″ LCD screen is inadequate for the task. Now a 5.5″ AMOLED is just starting to get there.

As I’ve said before, the one constant about mobile phones is that over time people have wanted larger and larger screens. This has occurred even as the chassis have downsized. We’ve now run out of borders to trim, and phones are nearly credit card thin. In the next few years, people will likely be settling on the largest that fits in pocket, purse, or belt-holster, and it won’t be considered normal to wait until you get home to “really” use the Internet.

A little while after that… the implants start. I’m guessing that Bluetooth (or NFC, or whatever) audio implants will gain popularity first. (Though I suspect some people’s listening devices have already fused to their ears.)

Times are changing. The current is moving fast. And it’s the greater market (not that one lone vendor that’s off by itself) that’s is driving the current. It’s a healthy market, today. And the real excitement is going on in the Android ecosystem.

It’s simply really. Iphone is a snappy, task oriented, smartphone. Android is a handheld, fully functional, computer. Iphone focuses on build quality and usability, and android chooses performance and functionality.
Iphone great for users who have specific use for their phone and want it to do the same functions reliably every day. If you’re constantly seeking more from your phone and love to tweak and customize and theme, or you like being able to network your phone with your home office. Android is the answer.
I’m a Motorola fan and that goes back to 2009 with the first droid. Solid phone.

What I question the most is the ethics of the outsourced manufacturing for the chip makers. Apple can afford to invest a bit more in it’s US employees without breaking the bank.

    • Steve Bergman

      01/18/2013 at 6:20 pm

Regarding build quality, how is forcing the user to go back to Apple if they chip their phone or need the battery replaced good “build quality”? Sometimes people confuse “sealing the phone up”, which is actually a business-model related move on Apple’s part, with “build quality”. From the user’s standpoint, these are simply (very) poor design decisions. (Although they are great from the perspective of Apple’s business model.)

At any rate, with a market share that’s 14.9% and falling fast, according to IDC stats, whatever the iPhone is, it won’t matter much by this time next year. People are voting with their feet and moving to other platforms. Mainly Android, which has reached 75% market share now, and is still climbing.

since when is ios not functional?

      • Steve Bergman

        01/20/2013 at 12:55 pm

Since Apple decided to lock the iOS down so that you can only do on it what they say you can do, and explicitly whitelist in their app store. i.e. since day one. In contrast, the user has always been empowered to do anything they decide they want to do on Android devices.

Today, I choose to reply to you using the Dolphin browser, because it has a feature set that I find useful. And I choose to do it from ClockworkMod 10.1, rather than from the distribution of Android preloaded on my phone by the carrier. And I choose to do it on a phone with a form factor, which I prefer, which is quite different from the one-size-fits-all iPhone Apple has decided is the proper form factor for everyone.

If you reply to me from your iOS device, you must do it from the image of iOS Apple says you can run, using Safari. (I think they did finally relent and allow Apple device “owners” use a version of Chrome Mobile, to ward off an anti-trust suit.) And on a device with a form factor Apple approves of.

      • Steve Bergman

        01/25/2013 at 5:16 pm

That’s an easy one. Top-notch marketing. Jobs was nothing if not a showman. And Apple’s marketing folks know exactly which buttons to push to speak directly to that inner-snob that most of us have but don’t like to admit to.

To be successful with a product like iPhone, it is not strictly necessary to have a superior product. It’s not even necessary to convince people that it is a superior product. Only to convince people that other people think it’s a superior product. (Rolex products are severely lacking in functionality, and everyone knows it. But the mystique endures in spite of that.)

It doesn’t hurt at all to make the product more expensive than its competition. Apple’s cost on the $750 iPhone 5 is $207. Huge piles of cash are easy if you know the right techniques to apply.

Recent Android and iOS smartphones can do everything I need, and then some, as long as I have root on them. Achieving root access is pretty easy on both Android and iOS, unless you are on the latest-and-greatest release, in which case you may have to wait a few weeks for an exploit to surface.
That said, the most important thing to me in a smartphone is form-factor. Unless I can type with both hands on a qwerty keyboard, I want my smartphone to be small enough to operate with one hand, which basically means I need to be able to reach and tap anywhere on the screen with my thumb. As smartphones get larger and larger, it becomes less and less practical to operate them with one hand, while the other hand is busy doing something else, like….er….driving.
On a portable smartphone, I just don’t need a 5.5″ screen. If I want a larger screen, I’ll break out the netbook computer, and at least then I can type on it with both hands. The 3.5″ screen on my iPhone 4S fits my form-factor requirements nicely. I tried out an iPhone 5 with it’s 4″ screen, and found that I had to resort to two-handed operation for some functions, without resorting to awkwardly shifting the phone downward in my hand. With a 5.5″ screen, I wouldn’t stand a chance of operating it with one hand, other than for the simplest of things, like making a phone call.

    • Steve Bergman

      01/22/2013 at 3:17 pm

“Unless I can type with both hands on a qwerty keyboard”
You can type with both hands on a qwerty keyboard on a 5.5″ screen. (It rather reminds me of my old favorite, the HP-200LX. Only slightly narrower.) That’s how I’ve composed the majority of posts I’ve made here. As you can imagine, it’s much faster and more accurate (not to mention more enjoyable) than fumbling around on a tiny screen with one thumb. Note the lack of silly “txt’ng abbrvtns”, spelling errors, and grammar errors in my posts… things which make most people posting from their phones appear functionally illiterate.

“less practical to operate them with one hand, while the other hand is busy doing something else, like….er….driving.”

Don’t do that; It should be as universally illegal as drunk driving. But when you’re *not* driving, wouldn’t it be nice to *really* browse the web, usefully, with your phone? Not just silly, cut-down mobile versions of sites which some organizations provide. But really browse the web productively, consuming any desktop site’s content you choose. The world of 5.5″+ screens is a qualitatively different one. And yet it still slips into a pocket as easily as a 3.5″ or 4″ phone.

I have a couple of netbooks, as well. Including the original Asus EEEPC 701, which is a very nice form-factor. (It’s smaller than today’s netbooks.) And yet I never did carry even that with me everywhere I went. The GN2 I can (and do) take with me most everywhere. It’s the first device I’ve found that can begin replacing my netbooks. It can’t do everything yet. But the idea of moving to a 3.5″ screen seems to me to be the stuff of nightmares.

        01/28/2013 at 12:21 pm

Sheesh, I guess my sense of humour is too dry for you folks. I don’t really advocate driving while typing on my phone. But there are plenty of other legitimate things I can be doing with my other hand while operating my smartphone, assuming I can reach the entire screen with my thumb. If I can’t reach the entire screen, I don’t have much choice but to drop what my other hand is doing and go back to single tasking.

ios is a really dated operating system with not much going for it. When the iPhone first came out, it was revolutionary, but stopped being so about two or three years ago. You cannot use the blue tooth for anything other than hooking up a headset. Apple seems to be under the impression that you are pirating your own files and pics when you send them to someone else. The cloud is does not solve the problem of sending files or pics to other apple or other brand smart phone users. This is ridiculous!!!!

      01/25/2013 at 5:03 pm

Here is my 2 cents, Apple is still great for Apps selection but Android will trump this in a near future. Apple is no longer innovative as they were when they first introduce touch screen phone, music and phone, apps store and finally Siri. After those, Android takes over, bigger screen, faster chips, Google now, panorama photos and now photo sphere, widgets, customization screen. Google maps. Voice to text on any screen. Any choices in price range, I hate to say this but iPhone is just fashion accessories and as with any fashion it will fade, an over price accessories at that!! iPhone is playing a catch up games. I don’t mind what os, I just want the most for my money and right now Apple is not that company!!

Also I like to add that I have used in no particular order iPhone 3G, 3Gs, iPhone 5, Pantech Burst, Nokia Lumia 900 and Samsung Skyrocket 2. So I know OS, and I think I can say that Android is the most innovative OS out there. Look at how fast they are upgrading their release!! I had high hope for Nokia and Windows because I got tired of tiles and thought live tile was better…I was wrong maybe because I only have Windows phone 7.5 and not 8. I don’t think there is much different though.

      • Frank Gregory II

        01/25/2013 at 5:24 pm

I completely agree with Sidney. I happen to use ios, Android, PC, and Mac. I pick the best tool for what I am doing and I am not loyal to any one product. I hope that Apple realizes that they have to bring more to the table than just really nicely designed phones and get the software to match that. Apple has to stop being so restrictive and let people use their devices the way they want to and not how apple wants you to. We pay a premium for their well made devices and have always gotten less in terms of specs and that is the truth. I like Apple but they need to realize sooner than later the reality that tide is turning and they will be left behind if they keep status quo.

There is one thing that I really appreciate about Apple and the iPhone: They kept Microsoft locked out of the market until Android was ready.

Now Windows Phone has no hope. This gives me great satisfaction. After all the years I’ve watched MS rule the world with an inferior desktop OS, it’s so very satisfying to see that after all was said and done, Unix won. Between the *BSD-derived kernel of iOS, and Android’s Linux kernel, Unix dominates the mobile market, with a 92+% market share, as Uncle Fester… errr… Steve Ballmer brags about WP8 rocketing WP’s share to a whopping 2%… after over a decade of effort.

In most charts, MS’s phone OS share is lumped in with “Others”. Never before have I said ROTFLMAO and so meant it.

IPhone is the best. Iphone uses premium materials, don’t like Samsung, uses cheap plastic does’t mean it’s durable. Android OS is more likely to crash than the iphone.

    • Steve Bergman

      01/25/2013 at 7:28 pm

iPhone uses a unit-design in which nothing that is likely to get broken or wear out is user-replaceable. (Easiest just to buy a new phone.) My GN2 came with a poycarbonate back, of course. I bought a flip cover with the phone, which replaces the back. So then I had 2. I then moved to an Otterbox Defender case, reverting to the back that came with the phone. iPhone, like most phones, needs a good case, too. (Have you seen the iPhone drop tests? Not pretty.)

Now, I’ve seen Otterbox defender successfully protect a phone after an intentional drop from a 23rd floor window onto concrete. So durability is not an issue for either phone in a good case. But if anything *did* happen to my phone’s back, that’s a trivial issue for me. It would be a major catastrophe for an iPhone owner. If my 3100mah battery loses capacity with age, I can just replace it. Possibly with a later technology, with higher capacity. But with an iPhone and its (pathetic) 1440mah one, you’re just stuck. (Better buy a new phone.) The design of the iPhone is great for Apple, but terrible for iPhone owners. What’s interesting is that after Apple f*cks them, iPhone owners say ‘thank you’. It’s a fascinating social phenomenon.

Regarding stability, you need to look into the differences between managed languages like Java/Dalvik and unmanaged ones like the Objective C that Apple uses. Crashing is pretty much inherent to Objective C apps, unless the programmer is very careful to get everything right with his memory micro-management. Java/Dalvik protects the application from most of that.

Don’t get too attached to your iPhone. You’ll probably be moving to an Android phone sometime in the next year or two, anyway, considering the way the balance of market share is shifting.

To each their own…if you hate Apple, why even bother reading the article? Who cares if one phone is better than another? If someone likes their phone then good for them! Do you have such a pitiful life that you have the need to feel superior because you purchased a phone you feel is better? Wow, good for you! You are so intelligent that you spent money on a phone! I’m sure you invested years of your life designing the hardware and implementing the software that I could see how you can be so defense over a stinking phone…Oh wait, you didn’t create the phone or any of the hardware and software inside it? Man, nothing irritates me more that people who have nothing better to do than to try to convince others of their superiority…(and yes, I realize the irony of my flaunting my superiority over you idiots in that I don’t need to prove my superiority by getting in a pissing match over “my phone is better than yours”)…Apple fanboys, Android fanboys…you are both idiots…if you like what you have, enjoy it…if you don’t, get something else…If you are like me and like one platform over another but are open to seeing what else is out there, then read the articles and keep your biased opinion to yourself unless people are asking for an opinion…it’s just common courtesy…if you are so unhappy that you need to argue with someone over a phone and bash people for not believing what you believe, go find yourself a good counselor…sheesh…they are phones people…phones…

Ah, I kind of figured the “Internet Tough Guy” would respond…and with a nice insult too! Wonderful! Feel like a man there Mr. Bergman? Because I’m sure the internet is the only place you can…My reasons for leaving the iPhone behind are about as important to people who like the iPhone as your condescending, insulting comments…

To Quote You: “I’d be embarrassed to have an iPhone if it were only for the price/performance aspect. But as things stand, I’d actually be quite ashamed to own one. But again, iPhone owners don’t seem to care.” – Then why did you bother reading this article? Why do you bother posting if iPhone owners don’t seem to care? Oh, because you are better than iPhone owners…I get it…and you just have to stroke your own self-created ego by putting them down and showing the superiority of the other devices on the market…smooth. You are a real cool cat with some serious insecurities and/or inadequacies to compensate for. Keep up the good work! I’m sure you are educating millions of iPhone owners in the wrongness of their “sheepitude.”

You seem to have read the same article, right? At least others are stating opinions. Quit commenting already, or I’m gonna start commenting about how your lack-of-opinion commenting is bothering me.

      • Mike

        01/28/2013 at 2:01 pm

I did read the article Jeff. And it has absolutely nothing to do with Android or a comparison of which OS has better hardware or software available…there is an offhand comment that compares the screen size of the possible new iPhone with the size of the S3 but that is just a size reference to give people perspective. I am an Android guy…I have and love my Note 2…but if Apple comes out with something interesting, I am open to a return…the VAST MAJORITY of the iPhone faithful are not computer programmers, they are casual people who are “basically computer literate” and could care less about performanance outside of getting their email, texts and listening to music. So my comment is for those who like to make comments in ignorance and insult people for their preferences. There is a lot of “iPhone sucks” and “Android is better” comments. To call people stupid and to say you feel sorry for them for owning an iPhone is just pointless and offensive. If they are happy with what they have, let them be. Just because you (the insultor) know more about technology than they do does not make you better than them…and I’m sure the “iPhone idiots” are better than the insultory people in several aspects of their own respective lives…I’m just tired of rude people who like to cause drama because they can remain anonymous in doing so…I have no problem with constructive arguments, but insults annoy me…And as you can see, there are several of my opinions in each post I have written, just not my opinions about which platform is better, because that was not what the article was about…

Here is the down in dirty way these phones pan out.

Iphone = 1 company controls the hardware and the software going into it. Thus they get a smooth working relationship between the OS and the hardware.

Android phones = 2 companys, 1 Doing thing the software ( google ) 1 doing the hardware ( samsung ) So at the end of the day Samsung does their best to make sure the hardware works as well as it can with the monster that is Android.

They both offer huge advantages over the other, the iphone offering a smooth and clean way to use the device with very little need for outside sources, the response is snappy and feels fluid.

While the Android on the other hand at times feels clunky, often loaded with bloat wear by the cell phone provider ( yes I know you can remove it via rooting/side loading ) But we are talking straight up I just got my phone from the store lets see how it feels.

I have owned a iphone since the first one, in fact I still have my silver and black iphone in my desk, I have also used countless android phones.

Never once have I picked up a android and just known what to do, when I first got my iphone it was very simple and easy to work with, and I am not some stupid apple fanboy who just says they are the best for no reason, it is honestly very simply why I feel the iphone offers a better user experience than the android does and that simply comes down to the useability of the phone.

When using the iphone it just feels like second nature, while with the android it is always looking around and needing to survey your area, yes with times comes understanding and I am willing to bet after a few months I would know every nook and cranny in the android OS, but again this is just the look and feel of the device when I picked it up for the first time. The iphone puts it all out in the open, no need to hide stuff you may way, no need to clutter the phone with needless buttons, it is just simple.

If you honestly want to get down to the Power sides of the phones, yes the android will win the OS has more ability to murder that battery faster than you can make toast in the morning, but is the speed worth the loss of up time? I mean honestly is it? Really? Ask any true IT professional if speed is worth downtime, and he will laugh at you so hard that you need to come back in a few hours after he has calmed down so he can explain to you the finer points of up time. When I am using my device to watch videos, make calls, check email, or just using it for music, I want a device that is quick and responsive but also will be useable in 30min after a fresh charge. I don’t want to be walking around the office every 45 min to a hour ( this is directly from a friend who picked up the atrix when it first came out ) simply because I wanted to play angry birds.

Over all the iphone and the android is to totally different animals. The Android is the cheaper, fully tuned honda civic that can clearly run a 1/4 mile in 10 sec flat. It might not be much use once you leave the race track but DAMN is it fast when you want it to be.

I find the iphone to offer more of a Ferrari style feel, yes it costs a lot, Yes it is flashy and you quite possibly look like a douche with it, but it runs that 1/4 mile in 10.9 maybe even 11.2. So what it took me milla seconds more to load something, When my battery last some times up to twice as long ( depending on the phone you are looking at ) then yeah I will take the a little bit slower but more up time.

TL;DR – Get over yourselfs, buy what you want, stop attempting to force everyone to buy what you feel is the best,
The iphone might be slower in the cpu speed, but the look and feel never feel slow.
Android is faster, made out of cheaper materials and offers a experience some people enjoy.

Personally I will stick with my iphone, why pay 500 bucks for a plastic phone?

You’ve just spent 775 words saying that you’ve had an iPhone for a long time and have learned how to use it, and that when you use another kind of phone, you feel lost. Well, that and made one specific claim that can be evaluated. Let’s compare Apple’s only phone with Android’s highest end phone, the Galaxy Note 2. The batteries are:

      iPhone: 1440mah
      GN2: 3100mah

The GN2 has well over twice the capacity. Now lets look at the respective claimed battery lives:

      iPhone 5:

Talk time: Up to 8 hours
Standby time: Up to 225 hours (9 days, 9 hours)
Video playback: Up to 10 hours
Audio playback: Up to 40 hours

      GN2:

      Talk: 990 minutes (16.5hrs)
      Standby:290 hrs (LTE on)
      video: 16 hrs
      music: 70 hrs

Of course, when a higher capacity battery for the GN2 comes out, it’s easy to upgrade. When the iPhone’s battery starts to lose capacity (and it will) tough luck. And when you scratch or chip the back on your iPhone, that chip or scratch is yours forever. In either case, it’s time to buy another phone.

As I’ve said before, iPhone is a great design for Apples business model, and terrible for iPhone owners. And Apple is lagging behind in most every area that matters. It’s still a good phone. But not the best. And *definitely* overpriced for what you get.

Ive been with apple since the 3G all of the way to the 5, and it’s just that time to move on to the next. First off, with the technology that apple has, you would think they would FINALLY incorporate “ADOBE FLASH”, but NO!. Plus, (nothing against old people) iphones were mainly made for the elderly. The iPhone OS is just getting old. When a new iPhone comes out a consumer wants to not only have the new smell and feel, but also the interface/OS. The old school Graph chart Layout is just REDICULOUS now. Steve Jobs they need you back. Apple logo…it’s really evil…it’s the forbidden apple Adam took a bite of. O_o…anyways, Galaxy Note 2 Here I come!!!

“Steve Jobs they need you back.”

Indeed. But my inside information is that the Ouija Board that now sits at the head of the board room table hasn’t said anything in over 15 months. And the quarterly séances don’t seem to be helping either. This year’s plan for corporate-sponsored chopped liver lunches for Apple employees seems an act of desperation. But we’ll just have to wait and see how that works out. ;-)

I am an apple computer user but an android phone user my wife uses iPhone and apple everything her battery life is a lot better than my gs3 2 days better but she cant run an emulator and play all the classic games like I can or even ps2 games like I can on my galaxy. I would have to say there are a lot of functions on android that you have to tweak when on iPhone the apps just work like the rsa app when I need it for my soft token to vpn to my work network a few extra steps. For a fairly decent computer user its not to bad what I personally like is I can have 60k of my songs and I am not going to tell you where I got all 60k songs from I can have them in google cloud and only pay $5 a year instead of the apples $30 so I like that I like that I can tweak hack and customize my iPhone more and as a programmer I like the java language better than object c but I am trying to get better with object c. I would have to say for the average phone user apple is easier so I would recommend that route for the heavy computer user’s tweaks of computer products I would recommend android, however I did find this article funny even top samsung execs prefer apple here is the article enjoy

Actually,my previous comments about apple are quite biased. I just tested the iphone 5 again and i have to say that it is a very good smartphone for the masses. It is indeed simple and much easier to use than my galaxy note 2 which seems to be way too big to fit in my hands nowadays. As such,I would like to withdraw my earlier comments about Apple since they have proven to be a worthy competitor to android. Apple deserves recognition for the simplicity of their devices.

When Samsung is thinking of a octa core processor in it’s next Galaxy s4, Apple still stuck at quad-core processor.
    Shame Apple, Shame

  46. Steve Bergman

    02/05/2013 at 5:49 am

Octa core processors may be necessary for android devices due to the additional complications that come with it. Not to mention, many android phones are notorious for lags and redraw, something which is very rare within the highly controlled ios environment. In my opinion, apple does not place faster processors within their devices simply because they work fine just as it is. Android devices on the other hand, are getting increasingly powerful simply because many of their users prefer to tweak with their devices, which could result in a performance drop when compared to the original roms. However, the experience of using an android phone with a processor two to three times more powerful than an iphone does not make much of a difference, as I found out when i compared my galaxy note 2 to the iphone 5 recently. In fact, i realized that the iphone opens apps even faster than my note 2, even though the note 2 has a superior processor. And I would have to say that more than 9 hours of talk time is pretty amazing for the iphone as it only has a 1440 mAH battery compared to 3100 mAH for the note 2. My point is, apple may not have the fastest processors or the most superior battery life when compared to the android ecosystem but it delivers a performance equivalent to the high end android phones out there. That is a fact which I admire about apple and which I so blatantly neglected to point out when blasting apple in my earlier comments..

Finally. This is what it really is about. Samsung S3 or 4 have superior HW specs compared to the iPhone 5 but they seriously need to overhaul their software because it feels so inferior to iOS. iOS may be full of restrictions, but overall, it’s more matured and simple. I’m not a fan of those fancy widget stuff android phones have… To me, they’re there to seemingly put more value to what you’ve paid for but in reality, they’re a waste of resource and it makes the phone look dirty. Bottom line, Samsung S3 and 4 have better specs, but needs to have its SW cleaned and be made leaner and better because this is where Apple is able to minimize the need for better specs without compromising performance for everyday users.

    03/13/2013 at 2:50 am

Alright so I’ve been reading through the comments and the beginning talk about the specs. If you really think about it. Why would apple pack massive amount of power in a device that has no bloat ware by carriers, widgets, effects, or other things that android uses that need massive amount of power behind it. Also why does the iphone 5 need a lot of ram when it doesn’t run two applications like th note 2. The iPhone 5 is simple it’s easy it doesn’t need a lot of power behind it. Also the display thing iphone 5 came before the droid DNA so you can really justify that it got beat even tho it out after the iPhone. We all know that apple likes to be on top so when the 5s* you should expect something with so,etching incredible highs. Resolution. Because if you look at the past years apple has always been on top with PPI, and as of right now the htc one has the highest at 469 PPI. Another thing you can’t place the iPhone 5 in 2013 model phones. It came out in 2012. Wait till 2013 model iPhone 5s than make the comparison. Pointless to compare a last years 2012 phone to a this year 2013 phone. Samsung s3 vs iPhone 5 thing, really it all comes down to the persons liking. Some like simple some like more than simple. iPhones don’t use a lot of power like I said in the beginning but all android devices need a lot of power or else there widgets functions high multitasking isn’t going to run smooth as apples device doesn’t have any of that bloat ware shit from carriers or widgets etc…

So be realistic and actually think about what you say.

    I have a note 2 and a ipad.
I like my note 2 but I liked my iphone 5.
I prefer the note 2 because it has a lot of things you can do with it.
But I also like iPhones because there simple. And don’t need to change anything.

Really up the persons liking arguing about specs and stupid stuff like that isn’t going to do anything, because the two platforms perform differently, so really specs don’t mean anything.

I’m not supporting either side I’m just neutral stating some thing you guys forgot to think about.

Hey Greg, the “morons” that put glass on the back of the iPhone knew what they were doing. How do you think the iPhone transmits its radio signal (through metal?).

    • Fred

      03/24/2013 at 2:33 am

P.S. And its only a small section of glass on the back. The rest of the back is metal. Of course, if you put some cheap, thin plastic on the back you don’t have to worry about getting the signal in or out.

To everyone trying to compare an IP5 to a GN2 or GS4…don’t….I sell and use these devices every day. IP5’s are miles behind either of these 2 Galaxy devices. Yes, Iphones are simple, basic and just work. They are so simple and basic that many useful things that other phones can do are not possible on Iphones because of how SIMPLE and BASIC they are. It’s really laughable how lacking Iphones are when put to real world tests next to real world powerful phones. Not hating, just calling like I see it everyday.

    • Jamesz

      05/21/2013 at 10:23 am

@Phone-man, you ask people to not compare these devices but clearly you just did yourself, for the millionth time, if you guys are looking for android devices than go to the proper thread, second I can say as an apple user that I can do more with my iphone than the average user can with his android device (especially samsung) you say they are behind but that really depends on your own definition of being behind, I’m just saying that googles play store is a complete joke and as a developer you should know that it is extremely difficult to make an android app that work nicely on ALL android devices. There is always the problem of different screen sizes and the problem of some phones having hardware buttons and others dont. Next up the security of googles OS, are you serious? I can easily reset any S3 or S2 to its factory default settings remotely and there is nothing those users can do about it.

No offense but to all android lovers out there, please dont just blindly follow what people say, dont make android the worlds only used os because that would stop innovation, it will push prices up very high and much more bad things will happen, but hey, it seems that no one has a problem with dictatorship though. Yes you may say Apple is in a way and you are absolutely right, but at least they found a way to protect their own property and the ones of their consumers.

I.e. Android launched game center, you want to know why? Because many devs dont want to develop for android, and why is that? Because it has been proven that Android users are cheap ass people (its ok if you dont want to spend much on a phone) but it is definately wrong to download a cracked app that would cost you 80 cents. After research it was found that over 80% of Android users use illegal apps against a hand full of iOs users. Yes I know there are more android users but I speak relatively ofc. Before people will flame this. Next up, Samsung is not better nor worse, they clearly copied Air Play and many other features but that is a good thing, patents should be shared so more companies will have the chance to bring something good to the market. Dont call certain features like automatic scrolling by watching your eyes groundbreaking, it probably is just a gadget feature that no one will ever use or will be used a few times just to find that scrolling manually is a better way. The same thing counts for Siri, cool but no one really uses it. Having 8 cores is very cool but seriously even notebooks and desktop pcs dont sell those standard as they are not needed and you dont need 8 cores in a smartphone unless you want a battery hungry device. Also benchmarks prove that apple actually uses the full power of its processor and regulates the power as to the more cored samsungs which are great specs on paper only use half of the speed. So this is only a marketing trick, I have a videocard for my pc one has 1gb ram and the other 2gb, people that just follow the rest will choose the 2gb because they obviouslu think it is better, but it doesnt have to be if the other specs are compared. Anyways not here to bash samsung nor android, just to make a point that all android lovers should leave this thread aa it is a thread about the next iphone and not about how great the samsungs are. And it still confuses me that a site with so many users lack the presence of a moderator. Like I once said if I was mod here, none of the android related posts in this thread would survive long because I will try to put it in your minds once more it is an Iphone thread not any other device.

As an android fan i can honestly say ANDROID FANBOYS ARE THE MOST ANNYOING PEOPLE ON EARTH!!!!!!!!!! You guys are like android rules because we have BARELY any lag on a 1.5GHZ quad core while iphone has even less lag on a 1.2GHZ dual core!!!!! Apple makes theyre devices smooth, simple and sleek if thats not what you like theres a SIMPLE solution-BUY ANDROID. If you dont like very cutomizable and possibly sometimes overwhelming then buy IPHONE or windows phone. Heres the guys not EVERYONE is a techy guy like us, some people just want their phone to be smooth and easy to use. Most people i know dont even know the difference!!!!!!!!

Apple rested on its market share and popularity, figuring the androids will fight among themselves to find an apple killer. When it woke from the nap, Apple found the androids battle tested, fit for war, and racing into battles. Now catching up presents a problem for their leaders who were waiting for Gates’ reincarnation to show them the wants of consumers. We want display mobility for work & play, indoors & out, biggest screen to fit a pocket (I don’t need the black border around the display).

You obviously dont get out much, because if you look on the web tests were done on this, and ios apps crashed more than android. And iphones do lag! web pages galore on the internet
