iPhone 6 Release Nears as iPhone 5c Stock Dwindles

As the iPhone 6 gets closer and closer to its launch date, it’s no surprise that retail stores and carrier stores alike are most likely getting rid of existing inventory in order to make room for the new Apple smartphone, and it appears Verizon is getting a headstart with the iPhone 5c.

According to AppleInsider, Verizon has begun getting rid of the 32GB model of the iPhone 5c, both in-store and online. In fact, Verizon’s website says itself that the 32GB iPhone 5c is out of stock, except for units in Blue. While the 16GB model is still in stock, as well as all iPhone 5s versions, this could mark the beginning of a liquidation for carrier and retail stores.

As for other carriers, AT&T still looks like it has plenty of stock available for the iPhone 5c and the iPhone 5s, and is still selling the two devices at regular price. However, Verizon has the iPhone 5s discounted to $99 for the entry-level 16GB model, and you can even grab the 64GB iPhone 5s for just $199 after signing a two-year contract, which is $200 cheaper than what Apple is selling it for. Of course, though, Verizon has other flagship smartphones on sale, including the LG G3 for as low as $99.

The beginning of this liquidation could easily be a sign that Verizon is beginning to make room for iPhone 6 units, but we also wouldn’t be surprised to see the carrier simply just ending its run of the iPhone 5c. The budget-minded smartphone hasn’t sold well since its launch almost a year ago, and that’s not too surprising, considering that spending just a bit more cash will land you a serious upgrade to the iPhone 5s.

iPhone 5c

The iPhone 5s was said to be selling twice as fast as the iPhone 5c. Specifically, the iPhone 5s accounted for 64% of total iPhone sales since its launch and the lower-cost iPhone 5c accounted for only 27%, while the iPhone 4s scrounged up the remaining 9%.

While Apple has marketed the iPhone 5c as a mainstream phone made for everyone, it seems that most consumers simply are just wanting the higher-end iPhone 5s, considering that they can pay just $100 more for the privilege, which is pocket change compared to the thousands of dollars that consumers will spend in service charges over the course of two years during their contract.

Still, you couldn’t beat the price of the iPhone 5c, and while Apple didn’t necessarily make the iPhone 5c a smartphone for the budget-minded, retailers went ahead and did the honors. Walmart is even selling the device for less than a dollar right now.

iPhone 6

We’ve definitely seen a fair share of iPhone deals this year, but they teetered off as we entered into the summer months. However, now that the iPhone 6 is right around the corner, stores are trying to get rid of their inventory of older iPhones and this latest Walmart deal just may do the trick.

Hopefully more retailers and carrier stores will follow suit and introduce crazy iPhone 5s deals, allowing more chances for consumers to get a great deal on a great smartphone if they’re not wanting to wait for the iPhone 6. With the iPhone 6 launching this fall, we can expect Apple to naturally lower the cost of the iPhone 5s, and we’d be surprised if most retailers and carrier stores didn’t discount the device even further after the iPhone 6′s launch.

In any case, we’re just about two weeks away from the unveiling of the iPhone 6, which is expected to be announced on September 9, with a possible launch date of September 19. These dates are still rumored, but numerous reports have agreed upon the timeline.
