iPhone 6 Rumors: New Partner for Better Battery Life

Apple continues to distance itself from Samsung, working with a new supplier for a battery friendly iPhone 6 processor that will arrive in a new iPhone this fall.

Inside the iPhone 6 we expect to see a new Apple A8 processor that follows on the success of the Apple A7 processor in the iPhone 5s. Multiple reports suggest the iPhone 6 battery life will improve with this more efficient processor.

Recently the iPhone 6 battery rumors revealed potential battery capacities for the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone models. The 4.7-inch iPhone 6 battery is allegedly 1,800 to 1,900 mAh, a boost of 14-20% from the iPhone 5s. This remains fairly small for a phone with a 4.7-inch display, which means Apple may need to rely on iOS 8, more efficient screens and a better iPhone 6 processor.

Apple has a new partner for iPhone 6 processors according to a new report.

Apple has a new partner for iPhone 6 processors according to a new report.

This latest iPhone 6 rumor from The Wall Street Journal claims Apple is working with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) for iPhone 6 processors. The Apple A8 processor that many expect in the new iPhone this fall is key to delivering longer battery life and enabling new features.

According to this new report TSMC started production of the, “advanced 20-nanometer chip manufacturing technology” in the first quarter. TSMC even sent a team to Apple and tasked hundreds of engineers to the project to make sure this works.

Apple relied heavily on Samsung for the iPhone 5s and older iPhones. Although Apple shifted screens and other parts from Samsung in recent years, this change marks a very important shift from Samsung to a supplier that is not also a major rival in the industry.

Samsung and Apple recently completed a long legal battle over smartphone design and the two battle for sales with the iPhone 5s vs Galaxy S5 and this fall Apple will even deliver a 5.5-inch iPhone 6 to compete with the Galaxy Note 4, if all rumors are correct.

In April 2013 a rumor pointed to a shift this year, outlining a 20nm processor and a shift from Samsung. Now a year later it looks like Apple is finally ready to bring a new partner into the fold.

Despite all the resources TSMC is pouring into this iPhone 6 processor it is not clear if Apple will be able to shift away from Samsung completely for the iPhone 6 release date this fall. It is very possible that Apple will still source some chips from Samsung.

The Wall Street Journal’s sources claim Apple and TSMC are already working on the next Apple A processor that will use “16-nanometer chip manufacturing technology.” This could arrive in an iPhone 7 in 2015 with better battery life, more power and other features.

For iPhone 6 buyers it doesn’t matter much who makes the processor inside of the new iPhone. If TSMC and Samsung both work on these chips there should not be any real difference to the end-user. The iPhone 6 features are determined by the Apple A8 processor though.

In 2013 Apple outlined three key iPhone 5s features as enabled by the 64-bit Apple A7 processor. Burst mode, slow motion videos and Touch ID rely on the iPhone 5s processor, and the Apple A8 processor will likely enable unique iPhone 6 features this fall.

Apple routinely keeps new iPhone features exclusive to the latest device and it would be a surprise if there are not some iOS 8 features and iPhone 6 features not found on other devices this fall.

iPhone 6 rumors outline tow new iPhones this fall. We could see two new iPhone 6 screen sizes on 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch models. The screen resolution may be the same 1704 x 960 on both of these devices, still delivering a Retina display to users with a higher pixel per inch rating than the iPhone 5s. Inside the Apple A8 processor and 1GB of RAM may join an updated camera. The overall iPhone 6 design is slimmer with rounded corners and curved edges based on leaks.

So is that mean, we can expect better battery backup from iPhone 6, which after fully charged on wireless charging pad, seems to be runs throughout the day. 1900mAh battery is enough for the Smartphone with 4.7 inch but another version of iPhone 6 that features 5.5 inch screen should have at least 3000mAh battery for great performance.
