iPhone Owner Sues Apple Over “Misleading” Siri Ads

According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, Apple is facing a class action lawsuit over the “misleading and deceptive” ads that the company has put out promoting Siri, the personal assistant found on the iPhone 4S smartphone. The Cupertino-based company is being sued over false advertising and the lawsuit claims that the software is less responsive than it is in the commercials.

The lawsuit was filed in federal court Monday and the participants in the lawsuit are being represented by Robbins Geller Rudman & Dowd. The ringleader of the suit is a man named Frank Fazio who bought the iPhone 4S back in November of 2011.

Fazio, along with the others involved in the lawsuit, believe that Siri functions much different in real life then it does in the commercials, one of which you can see below.

Instead of giving the correct responses as shown in the advertisements, the lawsuit says that the actual Siri is “a represented functionality contrary to the actual operating results and performance of Siri.”

You can read the full complaint below.

While our experiences with Siri have been anything but flawless, see our Valentine’s Day post, she has for the most part, been accurate and helpful.

Fazio’s lawsuit claims that the personal assistant is “at best, a work-in-progress.” That is sure to be a point of contention considering Apple released Siri in beta form, where the software remains to this day.

The lawsuit specifically calls out commercials like the iPhone 4S ‘Rock God’ ad seen below:

The lawsuit seeks an unspecified amount in damages and Apple has yet to comment on the situation.

I tried the remaining 4 things in this ad that I haven’t already used with Siri. Worked perfectly. People are stupid.

I tried all the Siri commands in the first ad, they all work. I can’t imagine my daily routine without Siri. Thanks for the great job, Apple.
