Amazon is running a rather unique discount on its Kindle ereaders today, where you can get $20 off on either the entry-level Kindle ereader or the company’s flagship Paperwhite ereader. The promotion suggests trading in your old ereader for a newer Kindle model, and the text reads like it’s a requirement to do so in order to get the discount, but luckily it’s not.
All you have to do is visit that link above and click on Claim your discount. After that, just add one of the Kindle ereaders mentioned to your cart and the $20 discount will be automatically applied to your order.
As for trading in an older ereader, Amazon says that you can “trade in an eligible Nook, Kobo, Sony, Kindle or other e-reader for an Amazon.com Gift Card.” We’re guessing the exact amount of the gift card will vary based on what condition your older ereader is in and how much it’s worth in the first place.
As for the $20 discount, you’ll be able to grab the entry-level Kindle ereader for just $49, or the Kindle Paperwhite for $99 (the 3G version will cost you $169).
The $49 will get you the Kindle ereader with Special Offers, meaning that you’ll see advertisements here and there. The model without Special Offers (no ads) is on sale as well, priced at just $69 (the same price as the ad-filled version at regular price).
However, if you can handle the occasional ad, $49 is a fantastic price for a decent ereader, and it’s pretty much an instant buy considering you’re only paying that much dough for something that you’ll get a ton of use out of if you read a lot.
This isn’t the first time this year that Amazon has discounted its Kindle ereaders. In fact, just earlier this month, the company provided the same $20 discount on its ereaders. Amazon also discounted its ereaders and tablets several times last year in December and November for the holiday shopping season, where you could get the entry-level ereader for $49.
You can usually take advantage of Kindle hardware sales throughout the year, so there’s almost no reason to not wait for a good deal on a Kindle ereader or Kindle Fire tablet, but today’s deal is about as good as it gets, considering that the Paperwhite is involved.
