The new LG G3 release date is still at least a month away or more, but quickly approaching, which means reports and rumors have been arriving at an increasing rate. While most of the details are still coming from the rumor mill, today they’ve been reignited by a brand new leak giving us our first glance at the new smartphone.
With the Galaxy S5 and HTC One M8 both readily available, consumers have turned to what’s next from the competition, and one many have an eye on is the upcoming LG G3 smartphone.
Hints and information are still slowly but steadily arriving, and today we may have received our biggest tip yet. A new photo which is reportedly the LG G3 was spotted this weekend, giving many potential customers a look at what to expect once it makes a debut later this summer.
The LG G3 is poised to be one of the most popular smartphones this summer and throughout 2014, and if all the leaks or rumors we’re hearing are accurate Samsung could have some strong competition. Of course most of the details are only rumors, but many come from reliable sources, not to mention a few more specs were revealed with the photo that arrived this weekend.
According to GSMArena the photo below is our first look at the brand new LG G3 flagship smartphone. A device which is reportedly coming to market sometime in June or “this summer” if various leaks hold true.
This is the only photo that’s been found thus far of the new LG G3, but clearly shows characteristics that it indeed is the real deal. The first and most important aspect is the LG trademarked rear button controls. A feature and design that debuted on the LG G2 last year.
Again the first thing we see here is the obvious and LG-style rear mounted power and volume controls. The original LG Optimus G had a regular design, but last year LG surprised many by releasing the LG G2 with all of the buttons on the rear. Many were cautious at first, but from what we’ve heard most LG G2 owners love the simple design, not to mention most users index finger naturally sits in that area while holding a phone.
The LG G2 had quite a hump on the back from the buttons, as did the LG G Flex shown below, but the above leaked photo shows a completely different approach. The LG G3 will still employ rear-facing buttons, but it has been completely redesigned to be flat. We look to be seeing the 13 or 16 megapixel camera (leak confirms Optical Image Stabilization) a power button with volume up/down below the camera, an LED flash to the right, and what’s believed to be an Infrared Port to the left of the camera for remote control features. A staple feature in the past 3-4 LG product releases. And also very similar, again, to the LG G Flex in the photo below.
From what we’re seeing the LG G3 looks to be an impressive device that builds off of the success of the LG G2 in 2013. We’ve heard rumors of a fingerprint scanner on board, which could be placed under the round aluminum-looking power button.
Sadly the strong vignette filter placed on the leaked photo doesn’t help us get a better idea of what to expect, but this is the first of what will likely be many leaks leading up to the eventual release date of the brand new LG G3. The note in the leaked photo reportedly confirms OIS for the camera, but then contradicts other reports. The leak claims 16 and 32GB of storage configurations for games, apps, video, and music, but then also suggests we’ll see both 2 and 3GB RAM options.
Until today all leaks have suggested the LG G3 will be powered by a cutting edge Quad-core Snapdragon processor (likely the 805) with 3GB of RAM, but this suggest a 2GB option could be on board as well. RAM helps with overall device performance, smoothness, and multi-tasking, so the more the better. The leakster also says a 16 and 32GB option will be available. The LG G2 came with 16GB of internal storage, but Verizon offered a 32GB variant with wireless charging as an exclusive.
While the leak shown here today doesn’t give us a look at the front of the machine, users can expect more details and photos to arrive over the next few weeks or month as the release date grows closer. So far we’re hearing the LG G3 will sport a 5.5-inch 2560 x 1440 Quad HD resolution display, but come with thin bezels to keep the overall device size down. Rumors claim the LG G3 won’t be any bigger in size than the LG G2, but be much improved in all areas, including the display.
The latest rumors suggest a late May unveil with the LG G3 being released globally sometime in mid to late June, but these are all only rumors until LG makes it official themselves.
