The LG G5 release is starting to heat up with more information arriving each and every day ahead of the February 21st announcement. Following a slew of leaks and rumors LG started sharing details last week, teasing new features and even announcing cases. Today though, two leaked photos are giving us our best look yet at the new phone.
Potential LG G5 buyers have been closely following leaks and rumors, but most of the details are still somewhat of a mystery. How big is the screen, what will the “magic slot” and module accessories be and more. There are lots of questions, and below are a few answers.
For 2016 LG is taking a different approach with the G5. It’s being released earlier than any other model, has an all-metal design, a unique modular design on bottom we still don’t know much about, and will have three cameras. Read on for the latest news and an image from LG themselves that brings all the rumors to life, and reveals part of the LG G5.
LG announced some official cases last week that gave us an idea of what the LG G5 would look like, and some photos were leaked on some random websites. Now though, we have an actual press photo from famed leakster @evleaks, also known as Evan Blass, giving us our best look at the LG G5 to date. At the same time, another photo has revealed the removable battery and “magic slot” confirming other rumors.
Here’s the newest and clearest photo of the LG G5 yet. We see an all aluminum design, the fingerprint scanner on back, and a good look at the two rear cameras. Rumors suggest a 16 megapixel laser auto focus camera with image stabilization, then a secondary 8 megapixel camera for wide angles, improved lighting, focus and editing effects and much more. Take a look below.
This leaked photos doesn’t do the LG G5 justice, as we can’t see just how good the new all-metal design is. It’s a little blurry, and not very flattering. Our own sources claim the aluminum unibody frame actually looks very nice. It’s also leaked in gold, suggesting at least two colors will be released.
With that picture in mind, here’s the latest specs and details based on countless rumors, leaked benchmarks and a few other reliable leaks.

- Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow
- Fingerprint Scanner on back (buttons moved to side, not on back like prior years)
- Premium All Metal Design
- USB Type-C Charging Port
That’s the latest news as the release date grows near. On Sunday, February 21st we’ll know everything about this phone officially, so take those details with a grain of sale. It’s worth noting we’re hearing the screen could be smaller than prior years, being only 5.3-inches, and LG may have switched to a smaller 2,800 mAh battery in an effort to still make it removable.
Speaking of a removable back, below is another photo finally giving us a look at the “modular design” or the magic slot that we keep hearing about from various rumors. It looks like the entire bottom face of the LG G5 can be removed, slides out from the bottom, and lets users swap out the battery.
The photo above confirms what we’ve been hearing for the past two months. Clearly saying “LG G5” on the battery, and giving us our best look so far. It doesn’t mention anything about the battery size, so we’ll have to wait until Sunday to know for sure. This appeared on a Chinese website, which has been accurate in the past, especially considering the launch date and announcement is only a few days away.
It appears that the LG G5 will be a rather impressive all metal smartphone with some unique features, three cameras, improved hardware and a fingerprint scanner to take on Samsung and Apple. Stay tuned for more details.
