LifeProof is well-known for delivering waterproof and shockproof protection for the iPhone, and now the company is upsizing to the iPad with a new waterproof iPad case that doesn’t use a screen protector.
You read that right, the LifeProof Nüüd iPad case offers waterproof protection without putting a pesky screen protector in the way.
This waterproof case appears to use a seal on the chemically strengthened glass of the iPhone to avoid using a screen protector.
LifeProof describes the case and lack of screen protection in a description of the Nüüd naked screen technology;
Cases with built-in screen protectors significantly degrade the visual clarity of your iPad and have an air gap that interferes with the touch experience.
With nüüd naked screen technology, there is absolutely nothing between you and your iPad’s screen — literally.
Check out the Nüüd tech in the video below, which shows there is no screen protector built-in.
The LifeProof Nüüd iPad case is rated to handle,
- Full submersion in water up to 6.6 feet for up to 30 minutes.
- IP68 protection from snow and ice
- Sealed from Dirt and Dust particles.
- Shock proof with survivability up to 4 feet.
The case offers a waterproof headphone jack that screws in to keep the water out and allow users to still listen to music. There is also a protected speaker opening that allows sound out without letting water in. The charging port and home button also receive additional protection to keep water out.
The case includes a glass covered camera lens opening so users can still use the rear facing camera to scan barcodes and take photos. While we normally recommend using a phone for photos, users who use the iPad in harsh work environments, like a home construction company, may find a light, shockproof and waterproof case with a camera opening handy.
The case increases the overall thickness of the iPad to 20.5mm. The width is 208mm and the height is 265mm.
LifeProof offers the Nüüd iPad case with a stand bundle for $159 for the iPad 2 and iPad 3rd Gen.
