Snapchat Update: Incredible New Chat Features

A massive March Snapchat update is out today that delivers a ton of new Snapchat Chat features. The company calls this Chat 2.0, and it is a huge upgrade to the way you use Snapchat to communicate directly with another user.

There are a lot of new Snapchat features in this update, and there is a new way that Stories are displayed. In short, this is the biggest new Snapchat update of 2016 so far.

We first heard about the Snapchat update that would revolutionize chat inside Snapchat back in January, and now it is coming to your iPhone and Android.

In an announcement on the Snapchat blog, which we usually only see for massive changes, the company shares, “We want Chat to be the best way to communicate — second only to hanging out face-to-face.”

You’ll need to install the new Snapchat update and start chatting with friends while you use the Snapchat Chat 2.0 feature to see if they live up to that promise. Here’s a look at the new Snapchat Chat 2.0 features and what’s new with Stories in this March Snapchat update.

The March Snapchat update that enables Chat 2.0 is still on the way to users. You will need to wait for it to arrive before you can use any of the new features. Make sure you check for updates on your iPhone or Android.

When the last new Snapchat update arrived it landed on iPhone two days before Android, so there is a chance you will need to wait to get it on your device.

Snapchat Update Upgrades Chat

Thanks to Andrew for helping us.

For Snapchat users that rely on the app to communicate directly with other Snapchatters, this is a very important update. The old Snapchat chat options only allow you to perform basic communication features.

With Snapchat Chat 2.0, you can now start talking or video chatting instantly when you are both in the chat. This will allow you to quickly go from typing to talking or video chatting. Of course you can also send photos or videos that are not live as well. You can also send stickers inside chat with the new Snapchat update.

Here’s how Team Snapchat describes the new Chat 2.0 features,

“You can start by sending a few chats, and when your friend shows up, start talking or video chatting instantly with one tap. Your friend can simply listen if you want to sing them a song, or watch if you have a new puppy to show them. If they aren’t there, you can quickly send an audio note to say what you mean. And sometimes, a sticker says it best :)”

A major part of this Snapchat update is making it easy to switch between the various ways you communicate with friends, without changing apps or services that you use.

There are over 200 new Snapchat stickers to choose from in this new update. You can send these in chat to other users. While they may not look like you, Bitmoji style, they add a lot of new options to communicate with images. There are a ton of these tucked into the new Chat 2.0 screen.

Snapchat Update: Auto-Advance Stories

On top of all the new Snapchat chat 2.0 features, there is a change to how Snapchat Stories work.

If you love to watch a collection of Snapchat Stories from the people you follow, the new Snapchat update makes it faster to go to the next story.

When you finish a Snapchat Story the app will now go directly to the next Story from someone you follow.

To stop this auto advance or Snapchat Story auto-play, simply swipe to skip ahead or pull down to exit stories.

Snapchat Updates Privacy Policy

Another part of the March Snapchat update is a change to the Snapchat Privacy Policy. You can see the new Snapchat Privacy Center for details on what is new. When you open Snapchat you need to agree to the changes before you can use the app.

The company teases that this is laying the groundwork for new products to come. Snapchat recently bought the Bitmoji app, but that is just one of the things we expect to see from Snapchat this year.
