Marketing Execs Dropping Like Flies. What Gives?
Two big announcements in the same week that major marketing honchos are stepping down. What gives? Who really knows and it could be that both Mich Matthews of Microsoft and Allison Johnson of Apple are just ready to move on. In any case as this continue to be topsy turvy in the tech world, we’re in for some changes as both ladies oversaw how these two tech behemoths presented themselves.
To be honest I thought the news of Mich Matthews leaving Microsoft was welcome news. As much as Microsoft seems to be continually behind the game when it comes to products, the folks in Redmond have certainly proved (to me anyway) that they have very few clues of how to market successfully. Of course all of that goes hand in hand. Johnson’s leaving Apple is more of a puzzler because whether you like Apple’s marketing approach or not (and remember Steve Jobs supposedly has a big hand in that) Apple has proven to be hugely successful in its marketing efforts.
Like I said, we’ll see some changes coming down the pike. But then change is a good thing they tell me.

Lets start a rumor that Microsoft is hiring Johnson away from Apple to replace Matthews. It would be fun to watch the sparks fly on that one.

NO ONE would believe Ballmer is that smart or creative.

I dunno, Ballmer used to be the head of marketing back in the day… and as cheesy as his strategies were, they actually worked, and Microsoft was a very visibly marketed company.
