Microsoft finally confirmed the price of the Microsoft Surface Pro today, revealing that the 64GB Surface model will cost $899 while the Surface with 128GB of storage space will check in with an expensive $999 price tag.
The details were revealed today on Microsoft’s official blog wherein Panos Panay, the General Manager of the Microsoft Surface, confirmed the pricing that consumers have been waiting for for quite some time.
The company says that those looking to get a hold of the Surface with Windows 8 Pro are going to have to shell out nearly $100 for the privilege of owning one. The pricing does not include a Touch or Type cover either which means that those looking to pair a physical keyboard with the Surface are going to have to pay more than $1000 up front for the device. Microsoft says that the prices do include the stylus that comes with the Microsoft Surface, just not the keyboard.
As was confirmed previously, both models will launch in January of next year. Panay is mum on a specific release date and those looking for one shouldn’t expect one to arrive for at least a few weeks. The company has said that it would arrive roughly 90 days after the Surface RT and that would place its release date around January 24th of next year. Microsoft has not confirmed that date.
The Microsoft Surface Pro is an extremely powerful device from a hardware perspective and it will be able to perform much like an Ultrabook convertible. In fact, it will be able to run any app that a Windows 8 Ultrabook can run.
The on board operating system is Windows 8 Pro which can run apps designed for the Windows desktop as well Modern UI apps in the Windows Store. That feature makes it a great option for those that are looking for a slate to replace their laptop. Additionally, it comes with a stylus that will allow users to take notes and sketch in apps.
The Microsoft Surface Pro follows in the footsteps of the cheaper Microsoft Surface RT which launched earlier this year with a more competitive price point. However, the Surface RT is meant to be like tablet while the Surface Pro is meant to be powerful enough replace a typical laptop.
