Microsoft’s OrigamiProject.com Folds

picture-1Remember when all the talk was about UMPCs and folks were hitting up Microsoft’s OrigamiProject.com for all the latest hints and clues about what this new platform would bring us? It seems like eons ago, and a lot has happened in the mobile industry over the past several. Unfortunately, the UMPC concept never really took off, however, we have seen many of the goals like price point, size, etc come to life in Netbooks.

Given that, it is sad to see this post from Microsoft’s OrigamiProject.com announcing that they will be shutting down the site around the end of April. Ken!! explains that much of the purpose of the site is being met by the community, and that Microsoft is continuing to invest in mobile computing technologies like Windows 7, touch, and ink.

On the subject of corrections, ‘over the past several.’ I think you missed ‘years’ there.

And yes W7 (including fingerprint scanner) ran just fine on the ASUS R2H (waiting for the RC to test it a bit more).

The UMPC was a bit to far ahead of its time, had the Atom been available 3 years ago it might have worked.
Still, it woke up the market again I think for small computers.
