We had reported of what appears to be leaked images of Motorola’s much rumored, often talked about, and highly anticipated X Phone, with screenshots of the device bearing AT&T branding in the software. It appears that those images are the real deal and do represent Motorola’s X Phone efforts.
“We have confirmation that these pics are the real deal,” writes Phone Arena citing undisclosed sources.
According to the publication, the X Phone has a code name of Ghost and will be supported on Verizon Wireless and AT&T Mobility, though it will be coming to all major carriers. Previously Motorola’s high-end phones were limited to the Droid range on Verizon, but more recently Motorola’s been aggressively bringing high-end features to a more affordable price range on AT&T’s network with the Atrix series; the most recent example is the Atrix HD.
The device is said to be encased in a “black non-disclosure case” to hide the phone and conceal the overall design ahead of release. We’ve previously heard Samsung do something similar with the Galaxy S3 prior to that device’s official launch to prevent leaks.
However, despite having the shielded case, the back panel pictured is the back panel that will be on the device itself. Motorola won’t be using any premium materials, sadly, and the back panel will be polycarbonate, the same material that Samsung uses on its Galaxy S3 and Galaxy S4 smartphone and had been criticized for in the past. Motorola appears to be abandoning its use of the Kevlar material in this phone iteration, a material that had been present for the Motorola Droid RAZR series and the Motorola Droid RAZR HD series.
And the front stylized Motorola M logo on the front of the device at the upper left is something that Motorola places on prototype devices and is said to not make it to the production unit.
Rumored specs include a 720p HD display and not the high-end 1080p HD with a screen size estimated at 4.7 inches, 32 GB storage, and 2 GB RAM. The phjone is described to run a mostly native Android build with slight MOTO BLUR tweaks.
And it looks like despite rumors of a delayed launch, Motorola and Google are still on track for a release in July, signaling that the phone may get an announcement this month at the Google I/O conference.
