My Amazon Kindle 2 Arrives, Totally Rocks

Published

on

I am one happy fella right now!! Amazon has done an absolutely fantastic job improving upon the original Kindle with the new Kindle 2. I will definitely share more later, but the three big improvements that I notice right off the bat are:

1) no accidental page turns due to the buttons pressing in rather than out. I can now comfortably place my hands on the reader

2) the book cover now snaps in to the side to prevent it accidentally falling out of the cover. The original cover was problematic in that area.

3) much brighter screen.

More later

You spent few hundred dollars for for these? It sounds very expensive for little things you upgrade.

I’ve been dying to get my hands on a Kindle for some time now. I hope somewhere down the road Amazon will decide to partner with networks outside the US for the provision of the Kindle’s over-the-air services. Is there no money to be had elsewhere? I’m at a loss as to why Amazon still hasn’t catered to markets outside the US. This thing practically sells itself. For crying out loud, it’s one of Oprah’s favorite things! Hehe..

it’s easy to imagine the Kindle being combined with the functionality of a cell phone, PDA and mp3 player to make an all-in-one gadget

My wife bought me a Kindle (1) in late 2007 and I was amazed that it did not support graphics. It has been on a shelf ever since. It is beyond me why technical books would be offered in a Kindle (1) format without support for graphics.

Based upon Amazon’s press releases it looks like the Kindle II is the first unit to be fully capable of competing with “old fashioned” books…… since books have included graphics since the integration of woodcuts into printing processes …… about 550 years ago!

The support of graphics, and (what appears to be) the ability to print those graphics is the most important new capability of the Kindle II, imho.

does bright screen mean you can read it in the dark?
