New iPad Orders Already Shipping for Release Date Delivery

Some customers already received a notice from Apple that their new iPad has shipped from the factory in China for deliver on March 16th.

The shipment notification shows that the order was placed on March 7th, during the frist day of pre-orders. Many of the GottaBeMobile staff ordered the iPad, but we have not yet been notified of shipment. Perhaps this lucky customer was able to order before the Apple Store went down under heavy demand.

The notification says:

We’re happy to let you know that the items below are on their way to you. We also included delivery estimates and tracking information next to your shipping address. Thanks for your time and for shopping with Apple. – The Apple Store

Our own Josh Smith checked his status and it said his iPad is “preparing for shipment”. Mine says “Processing Items” so mine is just a bit behind his.

Orders status You can check your status by logging into your Apple Store account.

  • Click on Account in the upper right corner of the page and a drop down list shows an item that says Track Order.
  • Click it and you will see any orders you’ve made.
  • Click on View/Edit Order Details along the left to see the shipping address you chose, billing address and method of shipping.

If you received a notice that yours shipped, please send us a tip about it. If you happen to get your new iPad before the 16th as some did last year, we’d love to hear from you too.

For those who haven’t ordered, yet you still have a good shot of getting an iPad on March 16th.

You can line up outside an Apple Store early that day or the night before. You can also try to get one at Best Buy, Radio Shack or one of the two wireless carriers who will sell them.

I ordered mine immediately. It was shipped from China on Friday, went to Alaska by the end of the day, and now sits in Kentucky. At this rate, I’ll get it tomorrow.

Ordered on the 7th to be engraved, shipped on the 9th from China to Alaska.  Has been sitting in Anchorge since the evening of the 9th.

The cover I ordered arrived in Anchorage on the 9th as well.  Since then it has travelled to Kentucky, Buffalo and into Ontario.  Should be here tomorrow.

Too bad they couldn’t travel together!
