The new Moto G for 2014, rumored as the Moto G2 is finally official and the Moto G2 release date is here now. Motorola chose to call this the new Moto G, but even though the name is basically the same there are a lot of important upgrades to this new device.
Motorola delivers a bigger screen, better camera and a Micro SD card slot so you can expand on the 8GB of storage that the new Moto G ships with.
The original Moto G is the most successful Motorola phone ever, and Motorola has high hopes for the new Moto G that starts shipping today.
Yes, the Moto G2 release date or new Moto release date is September 5th. You can order the new Moto G at Motorola and the Moto G2 price remains the same at an affordable $179 off contract.
Motorola did not announce any specific carrier partnerships, but in the U.S. you’ll be able to use the unlocked Moto G on AT&T and T-Mobile. We may see a Verizon Moto G2 at some point in the near future, but Motorola did not share any plans.
You will likely find the new Moto G in carrier stores and retailers like Best Buy in the coming weeks and months. We could see a Verizon Moto G2 that is very affordable on and off contract if there is a repeat of the original.
Here are the new Moto G features that stand out, and make it an even better device than the original device that sold extremely well.
This affordable device runs pure Android with a guaranteed Android L update. Motorola upgraded the display to a 5-inch HD display. This is a 1280 x 720 display, not full HD, but it is still a respectable option on a phone at this price. The display is covered in Gorilla Glass for enhanced durability.
Inside is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 1.2Ghz quad core processor, 8GB storage and a Micro SD card slot that lets users add up to 32GB of extra storage.
On the back of the Moto G2 is a new 8MP camera with a f2.0 aperture and there is a 2.0MP front facing camera. Users can press the volume up or down keys to take a photo. On the front of the device are stereo speakers that deliver better sound than the single speaker on last year’s Moto G.
There is a water-resistant coating to keep the new Moto G safe while you use it, but it is not a waterproof smartphone, so don’t plan on swimming with it.
Motorola promises all day battery life on the new Moto G, but we’ll need to test this claim out over the next several weeks to see if the device lives up to this promise.
Peel the back of the Moto G off for access to the Micro SD card slot and Sim card slot and if you want to spice up the device you can connect a Motorola Shell. This includes a standard back and a back that includes a cover to protect the display.
Other interesting new Moto G features include Motorola Alert to keep your friends and family in the know about where you are and to send an alert in an emergency. Motorola Migrate helps you switch to the new Moto G, and there is now an option to bring contacts over from a flip phone. Motorola Assist knows if you are in a meeting or if you are driving and it learns when not to bother you as well as activating driving modes.
