At Display Week in Vancouver tomorrow Samsung will unveil its newest laptop displays that feature higher resolutions than Apple’s MacBook Pro with Retina Display.

The new Samsung display is a 13.3-inch panel with a QHD 3200 x 1800 resolution, offering a greater resolution and pixel density than Apple’s 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display. Apple’s notebook uses a 13.3-inch display with a resolution of 2560 x 1600, giving is a pixel density of 227 pixels-per-inch. Samsung’s new display, by comparison, has a pixel density of 276 ppi.

The new display even has a higher resolution than the 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display.

Samsung’s new display has a higher ppi than the iPad 4 (264 ppi), as well as the Toshiba KIRAbook and Chromebook Pixel (221 ppi and 239 ppi, respectively). The higher pixel density means images and text look smoother on the display, assuming they’re at high enough resolution.

The new Samsung display will have 30 percent more power savings than current LCD displays, which could mean the display will come to future Ultrabooks or laptops without much of a battery life hit. There’s no word on when the displays might make their way into consumer devices, however. For now Samsung will only say that it plans on showing off the new displays.

When Samsung does put the new display into laptops, it will give Windows 8 users another way to get Retina-like displays on a laptop. Currently the closest option those users have is the Toshiba KIRAbook, which looks a lot like the MacBook Pro with Retina Display.

SlashGear speculates that Samsung may choose to show off a laptop with the new displays at IFA 2013 in Berlin this September.

At Display Week Samsung will also show off new, more efficient HD AMOLED displays that cut power consumption by 25 percent. Those displays may help boost battery life in mobile device sometime in the future, though again, it’s not clear when Samsung might bring those displays to consumer devices.
