Nexus 5 Back in Stock as Nexus 6 Release Nears

In a surprise move the Google Nexus 5 is back in stock from the Google Play Store this morning as it approaches its one year anniversary since being announced on October 31st of last year. Google’s flagship Nexus 5 was extremely popular and a device they had a hard time keeping in stock, and now just days ahead of the Nexus 6 release it has returned to the Play Store.

Earlier this month Google announced the all-new Nexus 6. A bigger, faster, and better Nexus smartphone to replace the aging Nexus 5 while showcasing the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop update, as well as the Nexus 9 tablet and a new Nexus Player running Android TV.

The Nexus 6 is set to go up for pre-order on October 29th from the Google Play Store, but it’s a device that many Nexus fans aren’t interested in due to the large 5.96-inch screen. That means the Nexus 5 is still going to be a highly sought after device, and now you have a chance to get one.

This morning Google updated the Play Store inventory list and started selling the Nexus 5 again in all three colors. Black, white, and red all were available in the 32GB configuration for $399. No 16GB versions were made available, but even at $399 it’s a great deal compared to the $649 starting price for the 32GB Nexus 6 for 2014.

Currently the Nexus 5 is available, shipping in 1-2 days from Google Play, but two of the three colors have sold out already. A sign that Google’s Nexus 5 is still extremely popular, and that many Nexus users are stocking up before the Nexus 6 release date in early November.

The white 32GB Nexus 5 is the only option still available, but we’re expecting more stock to be available soon. Google removed all other Nexus devices from the Play Store when they announced the new Nexus 6 and 9, except the Nexus 5 remains as a budget option. This is likely to offer buyers and developers two options. One lower-priced Nexus 5, and the new flagship Nexus 6 for those wanting to spend extra for a bigger display and the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop.

A few tips came in suggesting both the 16 and 32GB models are available, but we’re only seeing the 32GB Nexus 5 this morning. Of course stock could be coming and going, so check yourself if you’re interested in the Nexus 5 and get one before they’re all gone again. They’ve been out of stock on the Play Store for months, until last night.

The Nexus 6 release date is rumored for November 12, and as stated above, pre-orders open up on October 29th from the Google Play Store. This will be the first Nexus smartphone available on all five US carriers, paving the way for an extremely popular release once it finally arrives.

Google’s new Nexus 6 runs the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop update that was announced on October 15th, but those looking to pass it up can rest easy knowing Android 5.0 is coming to the Nexus 5 extremely soon. In fact, it’s already available right now as a final developer preview (linked to above) and below is how you can get Android 5.0 Lollipop on the Nexus 5 and 7 right now.

The Nexus 5 still offers a stunning 1080p HD display, powerful quad-core processor, 8 megapixel camera with optical image stabilization and more, but it isn’t quite the Nexus 6. Google’s newest Nexus offers a 13 megapixel camera, a 5.96-inch Quad-HD display, and a massive 3,240 mAh battery for all-day usage.

Those looking to get a Nexus 5 before the Nexus 6 release date, this could be one of your last chances, so grab it now before it’s gone.
