Nexus 5 Launch Date Rumored for October, Again

The Nexus 4 8GB is gone, likely gone forever, which means rumors of a Nexus 5 are going to start heating up. And while the rumored device’s features have not been nailed down quite yet, the Nexus 5 launch date has once again been pegged for October, a sign that we could see Google’s new Nexus arrive next month.

Yesterday, just a few days after slashing the price tag $100, the Nexus 8GB went out of stock and it may never return to shelves. Google’s Nexus 4 16GB remains available and ready to ship out in one to two days. With the price cut and now the likely discontinuation of the Nexus 4 8GB, consumer interest in a Nexus 5 is sure to ramp up as we march towards the holidays. And while nothing is set in stone, it’s looking like we may see the Nexus 5 arrive in just a few short weeks.

The Nexus 5 could arrive in October with Android 4.4.

Early Nexus 5 rumors indicated that the device would hit shelves sometime in October. Another rumor suggested the fourth quarter. And today, a rumor out of Droid-Life suggests that the Nexus 5 launch could arrive in late October, likely alongside the newly announced Android 4.4 Kit Kat from Google.

With the Nexus 4 now sold out, Android 4.4 Kit Kat announced and rumors pointing to October, all signs point to a new Nexus smartphone launch in the next few weeks, likely after the iPhone 5S and Samsung Galaxy Note 3 dust settles. The iPhone 5S will launch on September 10th in Cupertino while the Galaxy Note 3 will arrive tomorrow in Berlin, Germany.

Nexus 5 rumors have suggested that either LG or Motorola will be making the Nexus 5. Credible sources have pointed to both manufacturers so it’s possible that we could see one or the other or both. Rumors about multiple Nexus smartphones have swirled for years so it’s entirely possible that we could see two or more arrive this year.

Motorola Nexus 5 rumors are scarce but LG Nexus 5 rumors point to a device that could be molded after the LG G2, LG’s new flagship that will be touching down this month. Last year’s Nexus 4 was modeled after the LG Optimus G, at least from a hardware standpoint. It did not share the LG Optimus G’s design, opting to utilize a glass back instead.

Should LG produce the Nexus 5 and model it after the LG G2, it could mean a 5.2-inch 1080p display and a Snapdragon 800 processor. If Google models it after the Nexus 4, the device, or devices, should arrive on the Google Play Store unlocked with a cheap price tag.

The device should also arrive with Android 4.4 Kit Kat, Google’s new operating system, and one that it will likely detail alongside the Nexus 5 when it arrives.
