Nexus 6 Release Date Runs into Roadblock

Published

on

Google’s impressive new Nexus 6 smartphone which was announced last week is set to hit multiple carriers in the United States in early November, but the release date is still largely a mystery for most. To add even more confusion to Google’s latest smartphone launch, we’re now hearing the Nexus 6 release could be facing a few major roadblocks outside the US.

The company revealed the Nexus 6, Nexus 9 tablet, Nexus Player and the new Android 5.0 Lollipop update all last week after months of rumors and speculation, and then surprised many by confirming all five major US carriers would be offering the device. However, those in the UK could be looking at a situation far worse than those stateside.

On Monday Google confirmed Nexus 6 Pre-orders will kick off on October 29th from the Google Play Store, but buyers are still wondering what to expect from carriers in the United States, pricing, and release dates. Google also confirmed it would launch around the globe, as expected, but at least one source is claiming the release in the UK could be late December.

Here's how the Apple iPhone 6 Plus compares to the Google Nexus 6 as big screens face off in 2014.

While it’s clear when orders will start for those in the United States, other international markets haven’t received much information. Popular Android developer Paul O’Brien, who accurately leaked the October 15th release date, has bad news for prospective Nexus 6 buyers.

This week Paul took to Twitter and posted some rather bad news, suggesting the Nexus 6 release date in the UK could be far, far away. His sources claim that it won’t be available in November at all, and possibly won’t even launch until late December. At the moment it looks like Google is focusing on Play Store orders, and carriers in the United States, then will look to international markets next.

He didn’t have too many details sadly, simply stating that if you want to get the Nexus 6 in the UK before December, that won’t be happening.

Just like the Nexus 5 before it, the new Nexus 6 is expected to launch around the globe and in multiple international markets as soon as possible. The UK is obviously an important market for Google and Motorola, but it appears as if the US will get the first go at Google’s latest, with others waiting over a month before it arrives.

The Nexus 5 certainly had its share of supply shortages and issues when it was released, selling out in hours and being hard to find for weeks on end. While we don’t expect the same situation this time around with the Nexus 6, it could be rolled out to different regions at a slower pace to keep stock in better supply for each market as it becomes available.

Today we learned T-Mobile would launch both the 32 and 64GB version on November 12th in the United States, with the latter 64GB model being available as an online-only exclusive. We’ve yet to hear from other carriers, or from Google, and as soon as more details regarding the Nexus 6 release arrive we’ll be sure to update.

This wouldn’t come as a chock, as Nexus 4 was released mid-december and Nexus 5 at the end of October.
