Nexus 6 Release Delayed for Some

Published

The Nexus 6 release date has been a complete mystery since the October 15th announcement, and today potential buyers have received both good and bad news. This morning Nexus 6 release news arrived from two carriers, but we’re now hearing T-Mobile has delayed the launch another week.

When Google announced its all new Nexus 6, Nexus 9, Nexus Player and Android 5.0 Lollipop last month, T-Mobile was the only carrier with formal announcements. Google confirmed all five major US carriers would offer the handset, but the first release date was scheduled for tomorrow, November 12th on T-Mobile.

Today though, we’ve received bad news. T-Mobile took to Twitter and have confirmed a small setback, stating the Nexus 6 release date for its users won’t be until November 19th. Pushing back the release date one week to “give customers the best experience possible”. Read on for more details.

The Nexus 6 is Google’s brand new flagship smartphone running a completely redesigned and improved Android 5.0 Lollipop software update, and it has a huge 5.96-inch Quad-HD display. It’s Google’s boldest smartphone release yet, and we all thought the release date was tomorrow, but now it looks like Sprint is up first with its users getting the Nexus 6 starting November 14th.

This year the new Nexus 6 will finally be available on all five major carriers in the United States. This is the biggest launch of any Nexus device to date, and it’s good news for consumers. Sprint, T-Mobile, AT&T, US Cellular and even Verizon Wireless will have the phone.

This morning AT&T announced pre-orders will go live tomorrow, and Sprint confirmed it would offer the 32GB Midnight blue model only, starting November 14th. This was all good news, but T-Mobile beat everyone to the punch with a release date set for tomorrow. However, a new post to Twitter confirms the release date has been delayed one week.

No other details were provided, so for now this is sadly all we have to go on. When the Nexus 6 went up for pre-order back on October 29th it sold out in less than 3 minutes from the Google Play Store, and took less than a half a day to go out of stock from Motorola.com earlier this month.

For now there are no new details, and Sprint has yet to confirm a similar delay, but most likely this is based on stock shortages and inventory. A leak surfaced showing only a small percentage of T-Mobile stores would even have stock tomorrow, so they could be ramping in an effort to deliver a smooth release for all interested. The device has been hard to order for potential buyers and those looking to pre-order, carriers have been nearly silent regarding a release date until today, and now one’s confirmed a delay.

At it stands right now the T-Mobile Nexus 6 release date is now November 19th, Sprint is hopefully still on track for the 14th, and AT&T pre-orders should be available starting tomorrow, November 12th. We’ve yet to hear any word from Verizon Wireless, but a few earlier reports suggest it may not arrive until the end of the month, or in early December. We’ll update as more information arises.
