Nexus Prime may bring Ice Cream Sandwich

Samsung may be the manufacturer behind the next Google Nexus device. The Google Nexus Prime may be the first Android smartphone running Android 4.0 – Ice Cream Sandwich.

Google has not officially announced the next Nexus smartphone, but rumors point to numerous Nexus branded devices — possibly lining up for a launch of several Ice Cream Sandwich smartphones on each major carrier.

The Nexus Prime is a Samsung manufactured device which is rumored to include a massive 720p Super AMOLED HD Display, physical menu keys and a 1.5GHz Dual Core TI OMAP4460 processor. If this device does launch as the Google Nexus Prime it would be a bloat free device with incredible specs and the latest Android software.

Typically the Nexus smartphones launch on one carrier as a flagship device which attracts early adopters and Nexus fans. Boy Genius Reports that this time around we may actually see numerous Nexus devices available from several carriers, all launching around the same time. If this is true it would explain why we have seen so many Nexus 3 or Nexus 4G device rumors popping up.

Given the success of the Droid branding for Verizon it would make sense for Google to step in and take back some ownership of the Android platform by releasing a collection of Nexus branded devices across multiple carriers this year. If all of these devices carried similar high-end specs and ran Ice Cream Sandwich it would also be a big win for consumers who wouldn’t be tied into one carrier to get the latest Android software.

We’ll know this fall if Google will launch a collection of Nexus branded smartphones on AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint all at once.
