Nokia Lumia 1520 Renders Leak

Published

Nokia may still be weeks away from formally announcing the Nokia Lumia 1520, but thanks to leaked renders of the device on Twitter, users won’t have to wait until the announcement to see what the device looks like.

Mobile industry leaker @EvLeaks, posted the photo of Nokia’s first phablet – that is a device that’s too big to be considered a smartphone, but too small to be a full-fledged tablet – this morning. While he didn’t offer any more written details about the device, the picture practically tells users everything they need to know about the device.

As expected the Nokia Lumia 1520 does feature a high-definition display, that’s so big it even more horizontal space for users to pin Live Tiles to their screen. While that isn’t necessarily confirmation of a 6-inch display on the device, reports from as far back as late spring indicated that Microsoft would be adding support for large, 1080p resolution displays in Windows Phone 8 GDR3, an update coming to Windows Phones this fall. Those reports also indicated that Microsoft would add more space in the operating system’s Start Screen for smartphones with large displays.

As far as the design of the handset itself goes, the Lumia 1520 looks like a mash-up of the Lumia 920’s front and the rear of the Lumia 925. For example, the volume, camera, shutter and power button are all on the right ridge of the device. Nokia has also kept that device’s colored polycarbonate shells.

However, the device’s rear-facing camera, and flash both resemble the Lumia 925, Nokia has even borrowed the tapering effect around the camera that it first used in that device. Unfortunately, Nokia also carried over a feature that won’t please some Windows Phone users. If the tiny dots at the top of the Lumia 1520’s leaked photo is any indication, the device won’t support seamless wireless charging. Instead, users will have to purchase special charging covers, just like on the Lumia 925.

In addition to have a 6-inch display recent rumors have pegged the device as having a quad-core processor to power all of its internal components.

Nokia is expected to announce the Lumia 1520 at in event in late September. If and when it does, Nokia will become the first Window Phone manufacturer to expand the Windows Phone ecosystem into the phablet category that the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 now dominates.
