The Nokia Lumia 820 isn’t as exciting as the flagship Lumia 920, but it does offer a mid-range Windows Phone 8 option that we’ll see on T-Mobile and AT&T.
The Lumia 820 uses the same 1.5GHz SnapDragon S4 processor as the Lumia 920 and 1GB of RAM, but offers a smaller 4.3-inch display instead.
The smaller display still uses the same display technology so users can enjoy using the display in direct sunlight and can use the display even with gloves on. Two handy features for anyone that takes their phone outside. This display features a 800 x 480 resolution and is flat, rather than curved like the Lumia 920.
The Lumia 820 features 4G LTE connectivity for faster download speeds. The device features a 1,650mAh battery.
Inside the Lumia 820 offers a smaller 8GB internal storage, but this is expandable thanks to a MicroSD card slot. The Lumia 820 arrives with a 8MP rear facing camera, but there’s no mention of the PureView technology found in the 920. This is a mid-range device, so we expect some corners to be cut to keep the price down. There is also a front facing VGA camera for video chats.
The Lumia 820 is available in an array of colors, and users can switch those colors thanks to interchangeable covers. Nokia announced red, white, blue, purple, gray, white and yellow colors on stage today. Nokia also makes note of a durable back cover, but doesn’t offer details on how this is different.
The Lumia 820 won’t ship with built-in wireless charging, but Nokia is offering a Qi wireless charging back plate to snap on. This wireless charging cover doesn’t come with a price, but it will work with the Lumia wireless charger or other Qi wireless charging accessories.
No word on the Lumia 820 pricing, or an official release date yet.
