Nokia Sirius Tablet Details & Photo Leak from Microsoft Watcher
With summer quickly coming to a close, it’s looking more and more likely that users will see the Nokia Sirius tablet that leaks earlier this summer indicated would arrive sometime in September.
In a new post encompassing what he knows about the tablets Microsoft is working with its partners to produce in time for the launch of Windows 8.1, Microsoft-watcher Paul Thurrott shared some of the details he’s learned about the Sirius tablet. If his report is correct, it will include all the technology users have hoped for in a Windows tablet, with a $499 price tag to match.
As Thurrott understands it the Nokia Sirius tablet will feature a 10.1 inch IPS touchscreen display that will allow users to read more easily outdoors and in direct sunlight. Instead of treating a rear-facing camera as a sort-of checkbox that it has to include to stay competitive – like most tablet manufacturers — allegedly, the Nokia Sirius will feature a robust 6.7 megapixel rear-facing camera with Carl Zeiss optics. Nokia will augment that camera with a suite of what Thurrott refers to as “unique companion experiences with Nokia apps.” That sounds a lot like camera-centric applications that come pre-installed on its Windows Phone devices already.
Inside, the device will run Microsoft’s Windows RT, insuring that users won’t be able to install applications outside of the Windows Store. Since it’s shipping with Windows RT and a Quad-core Qualcomm 8974 processor, potential users can expect battery life of about 10 hours, allegedly. Unlike Microsoft’s Surface RT deice, the tablet will have LTE technology, so that users can watch videos, and stream music without having to hunt for a WiFi connection. The report also indicates that the device will weigh around 1.3 pounds and be about .35 inches thick.
Allegedly, the Nokia Sirius tablet will also have a keyboard and battery dock that is similar to the Power Cover accessory that’s been rumored for Microsoft’s Surface 2 tablet.
