An alleged roadmap for Nokia’s upcoming product announcements was leaked and suggests that the Finnish-based Windows Phone smartphone-maker will release a tablet for AT&T’s 4G LTE network at the end of September and a new Lumia-based Windows Phone phablet in the beginning of November. The information was published by Nokia Power User, though the site did not reveal its sources. As such, the roadmap timeline should be taken with a grain of salt as it’s still unverified information at this time.
The site’s source is furthermore unsure if the tablet will run Microsoft’s Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8.1 as the operating system, though it’s being speculated that Nokia may choose Windows 8.1 rather than the Windows RT counterpart given that platform’s slower sales. Windows 8.1 would rely on the x86 architecture from Intel and AMD and would allow the Lumia tablet to run all programs designed for Windows whereas Windows RT is based on processors designed by ARM Holdings and is limited to apps made for Metro UI.
Earlier it was speculated that Nokia would release its tablet in August, but that never came to fruition. It’s now being speculated that the delay is to accommodate the release schedule from Microsoft for Windows 8.1.
The tablet is said to be announced during the last week of September and would be headed to AT&T’s network in the U.S., suggesting that the Windows slate would come with embedded 4G LTE connectivity, a feature that Microsoft’s current Surface RT and Surface Pro hardware both lack.
Additionally, a Lumia-based phablet is coming during the first week of November.
