When we had reported that Nokia has something planned for September 7, there were speculations that Nokia may introduce new smartphone models or perhaps debut some tantalizing new information about Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 as the scheduled date falls just after the Nokia World conference closes. However, as we find out, September 7 will not have anything to do with new announcements regarding Nokia’s platforms, phones, or hardware. Rather, All Things D had reached out to Nokia U.S. Director of Communications Keith Nowak and had confirmed that the date is just the date that the Finnish store will re-open.
“That store is undergoing some scheduled summer maintenance/renovation and will reopen on September 7. This has been made into a lot more than it is.”
The local store in Finland had been undergoing some construction and remodeling and will re-open doors with a new look on September 7.
There’s been some speculations about Nokia’s next-generation Windows Phone 8 device. We’ve heard leaks before that the experience will be far better than anything that we’ve seen and our own sources have stated as much in confirming those early leaks.
In addition to utilizing Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 OS, Nokia is also said to be working on porting its PureView camera and imaging technologies to the platform to create a superior camera phone experience. The current Nokia 808 PureView is a Symbian smartphone with Carl Zeiss lens, Xenon flash, and a 41-megapixel camera sensor. In the past, Nokia had said that we may not see a full 41-megapixel Lumia PureView, but much of the experience and technologies will be ported over.
