Just a few weeks after rolling out the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update, AT&T is rolling out another Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update that brings new tweaks to the flagship smartphone. With the OTA underway, we take a look at five things users need to know about this new AT&T Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update and release.

In February, Samsung started rolling out its Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update. The update, which followed Lollipop updates for the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S4, brought a number of big time changes to the current flagship including hints of Material Design, changes to the lock screen, and a whole lot more.

While Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop release got off to a slow start, it has started to pick up the pace as we’ve pushed on deeper into the new year. In the United States, we’ve seen Sprint, Verizon and AT&T push Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop updates to their users with T-Mobile and U.S. Cellular Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop updates yet to come.

Today, a new Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update is rolling out though it’s not from T-Mobile or U.S. Cellular. Instead, it’s a brand new AT&T Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update that brings some interesting tweaks to the 5.7-inch phone.

With a new AT&T Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop rolling out now, we want to take a look at the five most important things we think AT&T users need to know about their brand new Lollipop update.

You Should Prepare Your Galaxy Note 4

This isn’t Android 5.1 Lollipop but it’s still a substantial update. According to AT&T, it’s well over 100MB in size. And while you might think it tedious, we recommend preparing your device before you install AT&T’s brand new update.

Android updates are extremely unpredictable and you’ll certainly want to play it safe. It’s an incremental Lollipop update but it could have a major impact on your device’s performance. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

AT&T Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop OTA

The new AT&T Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update is currently rolling out Over-the-Air so if you have your device handy, you should go into your settings to check for the software. There are two things to keep in mind as you do.

One, it might not be there. AT&T is known for staggering its Android releases so there’s a good chance that you may not see the update arrive today. And two, you’ll need to be connected to a Wi-Fi network in order to get this update downloaded and installed. If you’re on a fast connection, it should only take a few minutes.

New Features & Tweaks

This is not Android 5.1 Lollipop but it does come with some important tweaks for the AT&T Galaxy Note 4. AT&T’s change log lists five significant changes that are coming with this new Lollipop update and they include some bug fixes:

• Update Private Mode settings
• EAS fix for encryption bypass
• Removal of Softcard
• Emergency Dial fix related to Lookout & Mobile Locate
• Google Security Patches

Potential for Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop Problems

While it might be tempting to install AT&T’s new Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update right off the bat, it’s important for us to point out that you don’t necessarily need to install this update the second that it arrives. In fact, there are some benefits to waiting.

AT&T Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop problems have been a problem for many Galaxy Note 4 users. And while this update might correct some of those bugs, there’s a potential for this update to bring some problems of its own. Problem is, AT&T’s change log doesn’t list any of these potential problems so you’re going to need to wait for feedback from your fellow AT&T Galaxy Note 4 users. There are a few places to look for that feedback:

• XDA-Developers
• AT&T Samsung forums

You always assume some risk when you install a new Android update and you’ll want to be especially careful with Android 5.0 Lollipop. Samsung’s had a lot of problems with its new updates and there’s reason to proceed with caution. Be careful.

Fixes for Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop Problems

If you do happen to stumble upon a Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop problem after installing this update, you should know that there are some fixes out there worth trying.

Many of these fixes have been passed down from Android update to update so there are some proven solutions in there. These fixes won’t work for everyone. That said, they are worth a try if you do run into some problems after getting this new Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update on board.

If none of those fixes work or you simply don’t like Lollipop, you can go back down to Android 4.4.4 KitKat. It’s going to take some time but a downgrade from Android 5.0 to Android 4.4 KitKat is possible.
