Rugged cameras have traditionally been out of reach for the average consumer due to their high prices even though their main features, such as resistance to breakage from short falls and waterproofing, are perfect for vacationing families.
Olympus is looking to solve that with their new rugged TG-320, a waterproof, shockproof, freezeproof and dustproof camera that will probably cost $179 when it hits stores this February.
The TG-320 is a 14 megapixel camera that comes with a wide-angle lens with optical zoom that is capable of taking 3D pictures and HD video, even underwater. It can withstand 5 foot drops, cold temperatures down to 14 degrees, and submersion in up to 10 feet of water. While filming underwater will provide some interesting home movies, the real usefulness comes in having a camera on vacation that can handle small mishaps.
If you want to add a personal touch, the TG-320 also has something called Magic Art Filters which will allow users to customize and enhance images right from the camera itself.
It will ship in two distinct colors, red or blue, along with a host of other accessories including a camera strap, USB cable, USB-AC adapter, lithium-ion battery, and an audio/video cable.
If you’re in the market for an affordable yet rugged camera, and the TG-320 has caught your eye, you’ll want to head here for more information.
