OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update Coming with FaceTime Audio
Apple may have released OS X Mavericks 10.9.1 just recently to the public, but the company is already working on a 10.9.2 update for which the first beta has already been seeded out to developers, and this update includes FaceTime audio for the first time on OS X.
FaceTime audio was first introduced in iOS 7 when it released back in September, and it allows users to make FaceTime calls without the video feed, but still be able to get that crisp and clear audio quality through WiFi or LTE, rather than through regular cell towers.
OS X has had the ability to make FaceTime calls to other OS X and iOS users, but it was only able to do video and audio concurrently.
As for other features that Apple is focusing on with this latest 10.9.2 update, the company is asking testers to focus on Mail, Messages, VPN, Graphics Drivers and VoiceOver, hinting that more improvements will be coming to the Mail app, as well as the Messages app. Apple sent out improvements to Mail in 10.9.1 that fixed issues with Gmail.

Previously, before FaceTime Audio, users have had to stick with third-party software like Skype if they wanted to voice chat with other people, which isn’t terrible by any means, but the less third-party software you have to use, the less bogged down your computer gets with random software.
It’s unknown as to when we’ll see OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 release to the public, but seeing how the 10.9.1 update took about a month to roll out, we’re guessing that we’ll see 10.9.2 at some point in January, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it took a little longer to roll out considering the new features that’s coming with it.
