The PC Awakening Black Ops 3 DLC release date is fast approaching and the latest PC Black Ops 3 update prepares gamers for the new maps and Zombies mode. Treyarch and Activision also announced a new $15 Black Ops 3 game that only includes the multiplayer portion, available for a limited time.
Thanks to the 30 day exclusive access to the Awakening Black Ops 3 DLC on PS4 we know what is coming to the PC Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 players on March 3rd.
Sony snagged an exclusive for 30 days, which is why some gamers are already playing the new maps and zombies experience but the PC Awakening Black Ops 3 DLC is still coming.
Further confusing some users is the way that Treyarch delivered the Awakening Black Ops 3 DLC in a major patch. Even if you don’t buy the new DLC or a Season Pass you will download the new maps to your computer.
This guide will walk through the most important details about the PC Awakening Black Ops 3 DLC.
PC Awakening Black Ops 3 DLC Release Date
We finally have a confirmed PC Awakening Black Ops 3 DLC release date. PC gamers will likely get the new maps and zombies in early March.
Because of the Leap year the 30 day window will come to a close at the end of March 1st but gamers need to wait a little longer.
The PC Awakening DLC release date is confirmed for March 3rd, the same day as the Xbox One DLC release.
PC Awakening Black Ops 3 DLC Release Time
Treyarch and Activision are still silent, but GameStop lists a PC Awakening Black Ops 3 DLC release time as 9 AM Central. That is 7 AM Pacific and 10 AM Eastern. This is the only place we’ve been able to find the standalone map pack for PC, but we expect it will arrive on Steam soon.
PC Black Ops 3 Multiplayer Starter Pack Details
Activision and Treyarch announced a new Black Ops 3 Multiplayer Starter Pack for the PC only. This $14.99 version of Black Ops 3 only includes the multiplayer portion of the game and you can only play in public matches.
You can still buy the Season Pass and Awakening DLC and play those maps, but you cannot play the Zombies section with this version of the game. There is also no option to Prestige and there is an icon next to your name in lobbies as well as many other restrictions.
This is only available on Steam until March 7th, and it is possible to upgrade to the full version with this $15 credited towards the purchase price. You’re better off buying the full PC Black Ops 3 game for $25 at Amazon.
PC Awakening Black Ops 3 DLC Size & Pre-Load
Treyarch includes the Awakening Black Ops 3 DLC in a major patch for the PS4 and based on the size of the February PC Black Ops 3 update the files are likely there as well. The March Black Ops 3 PC Update includes official mentions of the new maps.
Even if you don’t buy the DLC, the Black Ops 3 PC update pre-loads all the maps and zombies for the upcoming awakening DLC.
PC Awakening Black Ops 3 DLC Playlist Details
We do know how the Awakening Black Ops 3 DLC will fit into playlists. You will be able to choose a special bonus playlist composed only of the new maps with a variety of game modes. This playlist is in Core and will only exist for a limited time.
If you buy the PC Awakening Black Ops 3 DLC you will also see these new maps in regular rotation throughout Core and Hardcore playlists. This is exciting for many users, but it is also a source of frustration.
Awakening Black Ops 3 DLC Problems
Users are complaining about trouble finding games to play in after the update, which now segments the playerbase into those with DLC and those without.
If you have the DLC you only get matched with other players who purchased it. This could lead to issues if you play in some modes that already have a very small population. There is no easy way to disable DLC on PS4, without creating a new account and buying a new PS Plus membership or contacting Sony for a refund.
On PC it may be easier to disable the Black Ops 3 DLC if you want to go back to normal lobbies.
There are also a number of Awakening Black Ops 3 map glitches that are ruining the fun for some users, and a number are still live after this latest patch.
Awakening Black Ops 3 DLC Review
While there are some problems and glitches we are enjoying the Awakening Black Ops 3 DLC on PS4. The maps are varied, and while the spawns need some work on Skyjacked, they all offer fun gameplay so far.
We’ll be updating our review after more play, but you can read the Awakening Black Ops 3 DLC review to see if it is worth buying.
