CES 2014
Pebble Steel Hands-On
At CES 2014 Pebble announced a new premium smart watch that ups the game for the established smart watch company and with luxurious metal and leather bands and a new stronger Gorilla Glass face to protect the watch from wear and tear.
Pebble invited Gotta Be Mobile for a Pebble Steel hands on, allowing us to see the new stainless and black matte options as well as the black leather band for the new watch.
After spending a half hour checking out the new Pebble Steel it looks like Pebble has another winner on their wrist.
Even though the Pebble Steel is metal, it is actually lighter than the original Pebble and feels very nice on your wrist. I immediately put the Pebble Steel black matte option on and was reluctant to take the watch off. Pebble really nailed the fit and finish of the Steel and while both colors look very nice, I’m betting the black matte option is a user favorite.
Users can switch between a leather and a metal band which are included in the $249 price and adjust the sizing of the metal band with an included tool. The leather also feels nice and looks good with the dark metal face on the Pebble Steel black matte option.
Pebble is already taking orders for the Steel which arrives in late January, and the company tells Gotta Be Mobile that interest is good with new orders shipping in February.
The Pebble App Store is also coming soon with apps from Mercedes, ESPN, Go Pro and others. One of the most interesting is a remote camera app for the iPhone that shows a live viewfinder on the Pebble and allows users to toggle the flash and then take photo.

It’s ok, it’s “ok”… but that’s all. Me as a uber nerd geek gadget freak, i’m kind of hooked to and used to Apple standards since 2007 so I didn’t bought a smart watch just yet – can you believe it? LOL. Just waiting quietly to Apple announce it’s smart watch, iWatch, whatever – because that’s gonna be like the thing you have no complaints about and works how you want it to work.

It’s not a huge update but definitely an improvement in the durability and appearance of the watch https://smartwatchforiphone.com/2014/01/06/release-pebble-steel/
