The Pocket app just received an update that adds the ability to stream videos to an Apple TV, if they’re saved in Pocket.
Pocket lets users bookmark sites to save for later consumption. If someone finds a web page or video they want to enjoy later on another device, they can bookmark it and then open the Pocket website or the app on a computer or mobile device. The links get synced to all devices and the web through Pocket’s servers. Now users can stream videos to an Apple TV using an iPad or iPhone and the Pocket iOS app.
The app developer announced the update on their blog and pushed it to their free iOS app, which works natively on iPad and iPhone. Users save or bookmark online videos using a browser on a computer, tablet or phone. A Chrome plugin puts the bookmarking feature in the browser. Mac users can get a plugin for Safari too. Internet Explorer and Firefox users can as well. Installing Pocket on an iOS device puts in the Share menu. Open a video and hit the Share button and it will show an option to send the link to Pocket.
Pocket claims that users bookmark over 2 Million videos a week using the service. When someone opens their Pocket app and finds a video they already saved, they hit play and the AirPlay feature will show up along with the video play controls (see image above). Tap it and choose the Apple TV to stream the video to and the app handles the rest.
This will make sharing those YouTube or Vimeo videos easier. While a person could watch them using the app on the Apple TV, finding videos already viewed and saved gets easier with Pocket.
We suggest heading over to our GottaBeMobile YouTube Channel and find some of our great content to save and share.
Pocket works with almost any web content a person might want to save. Use it to bookmark articles, websites, videos or photos. Then view them later using the Pocket app or website.
