Possible iPhone 5 Icon Shows Up in PhotoStream

Published

on

We still don’t know what the iPhone 5 will look like, even though we have plenty of mock ups. But a new iPhone icon just popped up in a PhotoStream beta that is available to developers.

The icon is small and really could just be an artist’s rendering of what they think an iPhone looks like when shrunk down to a 100 pixel wide size, but it could be a sneak peak at a low resolution version of the iPhone 5.

Does this icon show what the iPhone 5 will look like?

As you can see, the iCon image looks a bit different from you would expect the iPhone to look like, complete with an elongated home button like we have seen on early iPhone 5 mockups.

The icon also looks like it may have something closer to an edge to edge display like this mock up.

Is this what the front of the iPhone 5 will look like?

Am i reading too far into a super small icon? Perhaps, but if it was any company other than Apple I probably wouldn’t. After all, Steve Jobs once called  Google Executive at home on a Sunday to complain about the shade of yellow in Google’s iPhone app icon.

Maybe ‘rectangular’ will be the word to define the Cook era at Apple :P

Having “iconized” stuff myself, I’m going to say that the mockup has the edge to edge screen too close to the edge on the sides. From the looks of that icon, I’d say the black up top and bottom are decreased considerably; but the left and right edges are only slightly less. I’m not sure what that will say about aspect ratio, unless the iPhone has gotten fatter sideways; but if I was going to iconize that mock up, I’d lose all borders on the side. It’d just be a fatter line.

And that button looks way too fat for the icon. Aesthetically, the mockup is very awkward in many ways but especially that button. It’s elongated in the icon, but not that much. I’d chop off maybe a little less than half of it’s length. The icon has the button shorter than the speaker, not longer.

    P.S.
I’m also going to say that the slope of the four corners is sharper to accommodate the aesthetics of the bigger screen.

Adam, you are definitely reading far too much into a small icon.  There isn’t very much to go on when it comes to new iPhones.  Apple does an excellent job of keeping their hardware under wraps until they want it seen by the public.
