Radio Shack Deems Droid Bionic “Unsellable”

Published

on

The Motorola Droid Bionic has had a pretty difficult life. First, it was delayed well beyond its anticipated release date. Then, when it launched, it was backed by an atrocious advertising campaign and a price tag that priced out tons of people hoping to make the upgrade.

Then, we learned that owners were plagued by a couple of nasty little bugs and soon after that, it became known that Verizon didn’t and doesn’t care about the first 4G LTE smartphone with a dual-core processor.

So it couldn’t get worse right?

Wrong.

Droid Bionic

Radio Shack has apparently flagged the Droid Bionic as “unsellable” at stores and has pulled the device from its Direct2U system. The reasons for it doing so are currently unclear but it apparently has something to do with software or a security issue (but then, why would Verizon be selling it?) and not the fact that Motorola just announced a new, super thin 4G LTE smartphone called the Motorola Droid RAZR to replace the Droid Bionic just a little over a month after it made its debut.

What this means is that the phone likely hasn’t been pulled from existence but that Motorola and Verizon have some work to do before Radio Shack starts selling the device again.

And we wouldn’t count on that process to happen in a timely manner so it could be awhile before it makes its return.

This is exactly what I thought would happen once the next gen phones start appearing.  I would have bought a Bionic last April or May but no way now.  Even if Verizon gave the Bionic away on a 2 year contract, I would pass.  The Razr is by far superior to the Bionic.  Then you have the Galaxy Nexus and the  Rezound as well.

Oh Motorola.. do you even care? The Bionic’s story is a sad one. However, from what I’ve read, the Bionic owners seem to be pretty happy with it. I wonder what these mysterious issues are.

I have a Bionic and it is awesome. Haven’t seen a Nexus or Rezound in person but I would never trade my Bionic for an iPhone, that’s for sure. Siri, would you please kiss my ass?
