Ridiculous 4G LTE Speeds Hit Indianapolis for Super Bowl 46

Verizon’s 4G LTE network delivers speeds ten times faster than 3G, with promised speeds of 5 to 12Mb/s down and 2-5 Mb/s up, but it can go much, much, MUCH faster.

In theory, 4G LTE can hit 100 Mb/s down and 50 Mb/s up, but it isn’t likely that you’ll find these speeds in your average neighborhood.

But, what if you are one of the only 4G LTE users on a 4G LTE network that has been prepped to handle 85,000 users at a cost approaching $69 million? If that’s the case, you can see some pretty amazing speeds.

While touring the Lucas Oil Stadium to find out what Verizon has done to prepare for Super Bowl 46, I was able to perform a number of speedtests inside the stadium. With over 400 4G LTE antennas inside the stadium, I was able to get amazing speeds.

4G LTE is Super Fast Under the Right Conditions

As you can see in the screenshot above, you can see that I was able to get a download speed of 46Mb/s down and 17Mb/s up. I had a second test with a speed of 42Mb/s down and 19Mb/s up. Other test results ranged from 35Mb/s down and 16Mb/s up to the normal speeds that Verizon promises, but I was told that these were realistic speeds given the network in place and the small load it had at the time.

Very fast 4G LTE speeds in Indianapolis.

These speeds are way faster than you’ll see during Super Bowl 46, but still quite impressive. These are 5-10X the speed of many home connections. The download speeds were 2X the speed of my home connection’s burst mode, and likely much faster the real connection speed after the first burst. The upload speeds were 14-19X the speed of my home connection.

what’s written about 4G LTE speed is not what it should be, I would like to make it clear that there is two type of LTE network with two different speed, 1- 3G LTE which some how called 3G release 9 and theoritical speed is reaching up to 100Mbps. 2- 4G LTE which is totally a new generation of Mobile communication which is called LTE evolution or advanced LTE and theoritically the speed is reaching up to 1Gbps which is super super fast.

That’s insane fast! It’s about time… Sounds to me like they are far superior to ATT in Indy?
