Samsung Galaxy S II Getting Upgraded to Compete with iPhone 5?
We still have no idea if Apple is going to be releasing a new iPhone this fall but if it does in fact hit shelves, it’s going to face some serious competition. One phone that will certainly give it a run for its money is the Samsung Galaxy S II which apparently getting a boost in several areas in order to better position itself in a fight against Apple’s new product.
SamFirmware is hearing that Sammy might be boosting the Samsung Galaxy S II’s processor speed to a 1.4GHz dual core Samsung Exynos SoC which is up from the current 1.2GHz processor. And that’s not all either.
The new Galaxy S II is also said to feature 1GB RAM as well as the latest and greatest version of Gingerbread, Android 2.3.4. If this is true, this will only make a fantastic smartphone better and will present a very worthy global competitor to the iPhone 5.
All signs are pointing to a release in either August or September for Apple’s latest iPhone and that is the exact same time frame that Samsung is rumored to be pushing out this Galaxy S II Plus.
This fall truly cannot come fast enough.

Literally. With reports of the SGS II heating up when playing certain games [normal smartphone behavior], this upgrade might just be as taxing. I’m still miffed that they promised NFC on this phone and then released a model without one. IMO, the only upgrade Samsung should make is to increase the resolution to at least qHD and release a 32GB version.
