The fist alleged Samsung Galaxy S4 photos appeared online days ahead of the Galaxy S4 launch event.
A dozen Galaxy S4 photos show a large Samsung smartphone with curved corners, a physical home button and a silver stripe along the side. While the photos don’t show measurements, we are able to get an idea for the size of the Galaxy S4.
The numerous Samsung Galaxy S4 photos also show what may be the final design of the Galaxy S4. The front and back of the alleged Samsung Galaxy S4 features a dot-textured finish, similar to the Samsung Galaxy S4 teaser announcement.
User Xiaoxia posted 12 photos of an alleged Samsung Galaxy S4 Duos, aka GT-I9502, which reportedly features dual SIMs for use in China. SamMobile spotted the photos and claims that is has confirmed Samsung is planning to bring a dual SIM version of the Galaxy S4 to market, but is not able to confirm that this is the Samsung Galaxy S4.
Samsung Galaxy S4 Design
The photos show a large phone with similarly large display. Like our Samsung Galaxy S4 concept, the purported Galaxy S4 includes a nearly edge-to-edge display. While there are multiple shots of the display, there is nothing to confirm the size of the display.
The alleged Samsung Galaxy S4 appears to feature a textured back, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, which continues over to the front face of the device. It’s not clear from the photos if this is a covered in a smooth plastic finish or if it will offer some texture and added grip.
The right side of the device shows a slightly blockier design than the Samsung Galaxy S3, with a silver band around the edge of the phone. Early rumors suggest this is an aluminum band, to complement the plastic materials, but it’s not possible to determine the materials used from these photos. On the right side is a power button, like recent Samsung Galaxy devices.
The back of the phone features the same dot-textured style and a new look for the back of the phone, which does not match with any of the leaked Samsung Galaxy S4 cases. The larger camera lens juts out slightly from the back fo the phone and a sizable flash sits directly below it. There is a single speaker, that is now located towards the base of the phone, with two slots, instead of the grille found on the Galaxy S3.
One photo shows a Micro USB port and possible the small notch that allows users to remove a plastic back for access to a user replaceable battery and a Micro SD card slot.
Samsung Galaxy S4 Display
There is a screen resolution of 1080 x 1920, though no indication of the screen size. Rumors indicate the Samsung Galaxy S4 features a 4.99-inch display, which could plausibly fit in this phone. According to leaks, the Samsung Galaxy S4 will feature a new green PHOLED display with touch free gesture support.
This would allow users to access features like AirView, currently found in the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, without touching the display and without the need for a stylus. This new type of display technology is up to 25% more efficient than AMOLED, which could translate into great Samsung Galaxy S4 battery life. The video below shows similar screen technology in action.
Two of the alleged Samsung Galaxy S4 photos offer a clear front on look at the device. These two photos show nice looking photos, though it’s tough to make any judgements on the quality of the Galaxy S4 display from these photos.
Samsung Galaxy S4 Specs & Features
Thanks to leaked benchmarks we’ve seen a number of different Samsung Galaxy S4 processor combinations, and rumors suggest Samsung is planning to use a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor in the U.S. and an Exynos Octa 5 processor in the international version. The alleged Samsung Galaxy S4 photos include an Antutu benchmark which scores 26,188, which beats the highest mobile ranking by 6,000 points.
The claimed Samsung Galaxy S4 photos also include a shot of device properties that show a Universal5410 quad-core Arm v7 processor clocked at up to 1.8GHz. This could very well be the Samsung Exynos Octa 5 5410 processor announced at CES. This processor is paired with 2GB of RAM.
If these photos are legit, there is one additional sensor on the front of the Samsung Galaxy S4. This sensor likely aids the motion, gesture, smart software features and touch free control of the display.
Samsung Galaxy S4 Software
The alleged Samsung Galaxy S4 photos also show what may be the next version of Samsung TouchWiz and Nature UX. The Samsung overlays are running on top of Android 4.2.1, which is one minor version behind devices like the Nexus 4.
The photos show a cleaner user interface with a transparent, or nearly transparent, notification bar. In the notification bar we see the indicator for Smart stay, a feature that keeps the display on while you are looking at it. The Samsung Galaxy S4 is rumored to feature several new smart features such as Smart scroll, which allows users to scroll through apps and menus with a combination of eye tracking and motion tracking.
The show Samsung Galaxy S4 software that appears to match up with the claimed Samsung Galaxy S4 screenshots leaked last week.
Is this the Samsung Galaxy S4?
It is possible that these are the real Samsung Galaxy S4 photos. While Samsung security is extremely tight, the smartphone launches in three days.
The overall design and specs of the alleged Samsung Galaxy S4 in these photos is plausible, though there is a chance that this is a testing phone with an unfinished design.
