Samsung to Call Windows 8 Tablets ATIV Tab, Windows Phone 8 ATIV S?

Samsung has been using its Galaxy brand for its Android smartphones, which seems to be a successful strategy for the South Korean electronics-maker. However, Samsung also makes a line of Windows Phone 8 products and the company has committed to manufacturing tablet hardware that runs on Microsoft’s Windows 8 operating system when that OS debuts this Fall. With Windows Phone 8, Samsung’s worldwide marketing efforts have been less unified than for the Android line, and it seems that this is about to change as it appears that Samsung has reserved the ATIV branding.

According to Sam Mobile on Twitter, the ATIV branding may be used for the company’s Microsoft-based products, with ATIV Tab reserved for tablets running on Windows 8 and ATIV S to be used for the flagship, high-end Windows Phone 8 smartphone.

We’ll probably learn more about the ATIV branding at IFA in Germany soon, where it is expected Samsung may make announcements for its Windows Phone 8 lineup as well as debut some new Android products, including the much rumored Galaxy Note 2 phablet as well as a Galaxy Camera to rival Nikon’s smart camera offering.

The company has also been teasing a Windows 8 hybrid tablet for the IFA trade show.
