Samsung has taken the stage in Germany at the IFA trade show at the company’s Unpacked event to unveil an update to the 10.1-inch Galaxy Note tablet. The new edition, dubbed the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition, follows styling introduced on the recent Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 edition while at the same time delivering all the features and innovations that are debuting on from the Galaxy Note 3 phablet. Complete with S Pen functionality, the Galaxy Note 10.1 comes with a new pixel-topping resolution display.
Featuring the same high resolution display as that on the premium Google Nexus 10, also made by Samsung, the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition features a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels, a significant upgrade from the last generation Note 10.1’s 1280 X 800-pixel display.
The new S Pen brings “Smart Freedom” that brings easier functionality to the tablet and phablet series. Featuring radial dial menus, the S Pen is said to be a more “versatile controller” that serves as the key that unlocks all the functionality.
The updated S Pen included with GALAXY Note 10.1 improves responsiveness, delivers day-to-day efficiency enhancements and produces more creative input capabilities. The tablet also includes GALAXY Note 3’s updated S Pen features such as Action Memo, Scrapbook, Screen Write and S Finder.
The Note 10.1 is expected to arrive in 159 countries globally alongside the Galaxy Gear smartwatch and the Galaxy Note 3 phablet. Samsung was light on details at the presentation.
The device will have an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front camera. There will be over a dozen premium pre-loaded partner apps that work with the Note 10.1 2014 and the Note 3 as Samsung shows off the S Pen capabilities and build out developer support.
There will be several variants of the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition available, with WiFi, 3G, LTE and various combinations of the above connectivity:
