Seagate has just released an Android app that connects to their recently released Seagate GoFlex Satellite WiFi equipped hard drive for streaming movies and music.
The Seagate GoFlex Satellite is a 500GB hard drive with a built in battery and WiFi, which allows your smartphones and tablets to connect to the hard drive. The GoFlexSatellite can connect support up to 3 different devices streaming 3 different HD movies at the same time.
Seagate announced today that the Android access is no longer limited to the web browser. The new Android app allows for easy access to the Seagate GoFlex Satellite on the go. You can access your videos, music, photos and documents, delivering access to 500GB of storage, instead of the piddly 16GB of onboard storage found on your smartphone.
To use the Seagate GoFlex Media App, you need to power on the GoFlex Satellite, connect to the hard drive’s WiFi network and then launch the app.
I have a GoFlex Satellite hard drive in for review and will be putting the hard drive through its paces this month. The ability to take all of your media wherever you go, even without a fast Internet connection, is really cool. Because the device works with its own WiFi network I can connect practically any WiFi gadget I have, even if I am miles away from the Internet connectivity required by streaming services.
The Satellite already looks like a top contender for family road trips. You’ll enjoy the included car charger and portability of the unit. The device is rated at 5 hours, which I will also put to the test.
Here’s a look at how the Seagate GoFlex Satellite hard drive works.
In addition to the new Android smartphone app, you can use the GoFlex Satellite with the iPad, iPhone and Android tablets. The GoFlex Satellite retails for $199 with 500GB of storage.
