On June 13th at Apple’s annual WWDC conference the company confirmed multiple changes for tvOS and the Apple TV, including one of the most popular streaming services, Sling TV. Here’s what users need to know about the Sling TV app for Apple TV.
Rumors suggested it was coming back in March, which turned out to be somewhat false, or just premature. The leak was fake, but now the news is official and Apple confirmed the app will be available starting today. Meaning users will be able to tune into Sling TV and catch live television like the NBA Finals right on their Apple TV.
Sling TV on Apple TV seemed like a match made in heaven, but for whatever reason it didn’t arrive until today. Android users, Roku and many other devices have been enjoying all it has to offer for more than a year, and now the possibilities open up to millions of Apple TV owners.
Heading to Sling TV’s official support page and inquiring about Apple TV users see a note stating it isn’t available, but that should be changing soon. Apple confirmed the Sling TV app would be available for download later today.
For those that don’t know, Sling TV is a live streaming internet TV service that bundles some of the most popular and often used TV channels for a low monthly fee. Essentially all the important channels we all want, rather than expensive bundles with hundreds of channels no one needs. Popular content like Fox Sports, Fox News, AMC, Disney, ESPN, EPIX, History, Lifetime, Food Network, Cartoon Network and much more. In fact, for just $20 a month Sling TV delivers over 25 of the best channels available today. Read our review above for more details, or check out the link below. Pricing remains the same for Apple TV users.
Earlier this year Sling also confirmed support for multi-streaming, allowing owners to stream Sling TV to three different devices at the same time. Meaning owners will be able to tune in and watch re-runs of The Walking Dead or catch the NBA Finals on their smartphone, tablet and now of course, Apple TV.
Along with the “Best of Live TV” pack Sling provides multiple add-on “Extra” packs with even more popular channels, for an extra $5 a month. Content like Sports Extra, Kids Extra, Lifestyle Extra, HBO, Best of Spanish TV, Hollywood Extra, World News Extra, Cinemax, Sports Extra and Broadcast Extra. Today Sling also confirmed a partnership with Viacom to deliver channels like MTV, Spike, Comedy Central and more. Making it one of the most complete TV streaming service available today.
During the announcement Apple also took the moment to announce multiple key changes to the tvOS and Apple TV. Things like the Siri Remote app on the iPhone, single-sign on to verify cable subscriptions and much more.
