The Speck CandyShell Grip HTC One M9 Case adds grip and protection to your new smartphone without adding too much bulk to the new HTC One.
The HTC One M9 is similar in look and feel to last year’s model complete with a curved back that fits right into your hand. While it is not as slippery as the iPhone 6, two of our team members dropped the old model within two weeks of buying the phone last year, so more grip is a good thing.
You can check out our list of the best HTC One M9 cases for a wide selection of options, but the Speck CandyShell Grip is certainly a great option that won’t break your bank.
The[easyazon_link identifier=”B00UV3V34I” locale=”US” tag=”gbm-ea-20″]Speck CandyShell cases[/easyazon_link] are split among a range of options, and the CandyShell Grip is one with four areas of raised edges on the back of the case that make it easy to hold on to the phone no matter where you grab it. These small lines stick out slightly on the back of the case adding drip to your phone.
On top of letting you grab and hold the phone easier, when you set it down on a desk or in a car it will stay put much better than a curved metal back.
One of the reasons I enjoy using the CandyShell Grip cases on the HTC One M9 and on other phones is that it keeps the phone in place when I go to the gym and need to keep the phone on a small treadmill ledge and in my sweaty hands.
The buttons are covered in a rubber material that makes them easier to find and easier to press. One of my complaints about the HTC One M9 is that it is tough to reliably hit the power button when I grab the phone. With the Speck CandyShell case on, it is easier to quickly grab the phone.
With front facing speakers on the HTC One M9 there is no need for an opening on the bottom or back to let sound through. The camera opening is wide and there is an opening for the IR blaster that lets you use the HTC One M9 remote app and the headphone and micro USB charging jack.
The back of the HTC One M9 Speck CandyShell Grip case is made of a hard plastic and the grips are soft rubber. The hard plastic shows fingerprints easily and can show scuffs over time, but the grips do help prevent a wide open space for scuffs to accumulate. On the front is a lip that keeps the screen off of the desk when you place the phone face down on a desk or table.
The inside of the case is the same soft rubber as the buttons, so you will not scratch your HTC One M9 when you place it in the case. The dual hard and soft design adds to the overall protection of your device. I did not test dropping the HTC One M9 in the CandyShell Grip, but the CandyShell cases delivered good protection for past phones.
