Sprint Bringing 4G LTE to San Francisco And 21 Other Cities Soon

Published

on

Today Sprint announced that it will bring 4G LTE coverage to another collection of cities including San Francisco in the coming months.

Sprint doesn’t give exact dates for the 4G LTE rollout, only that the build out of 4G LTE in a number of new cities is currently underway. San Francisco and the other 21 cities join a list of over 100 cities that Sprint recently announced will receive 4G LTE. The previous list included cities like New York City, Boston, and Los Angeles.

Sprint plans to bring 4G LTE to most of its current 3G coverage areas. The process will take a few years at the carrier’s current rate.Sprint-Logo

A potential buyout from Softbank could help Sprint speed up the process of its 4G LTE rollout. Sprint recently confirmed it is talking to the Japanese carrier concerning “a potential substantial investment.” That investment will give Sprint more capital to pay for its 4G LTE rollout.

A merger with MetroPCS, which Sprint is also considering, could help the rollout as well. MetroPCS already has 4G LTE in many areas where Sprint is rolling out its network.

Sprint currently has 4G LTE available in 24 markets that are mostly in the South, Midwest, and East Coast of the U.S.

The cities in the new list are:

  • San Francisco-San Mateo-Redwood City, CA
  • Cape Coral-Ft Meyers, FL
  • Dyersburg-Union City-Martin, TN
  • Emporia, KS
  • Fort Wayne, IN
  • Greenwood, MS
  • Joplin, MO
  • Kokomo, IN
  • Lafayette/West Lafayette, IN
