Sprint Continues to Dodge iPhone 5 Rumors

Remember last week when Sprint stated that it was ready for the iPhone but refused to either confirm or deny whether it would be getting the device? Well, the carrier is back at it again and this time it’s Sprint’s CEO Dan Hesse who is guilty of almost confirming a Sprint iPhone. During an investor conference sponsored by Goldman Sachs, Hesse remarked that the company’s financial expectations for 2011 do not hinge on Apple’s iconic device.

However, in denying that, he hinted at what might be in store in the future stating that if the carrier were to get the iPhone, emphasis on the if, then the company would have to “we may have to adjust our guidance for that.”

That being said, he also very plainly stated that the main reason that Sprint is losing customers is because of they want to switch over to the iPhone. He also reiterated the fact that the carrier very much wants to keep unlimited data but that if it becomes unprofitable, that it might have to consider change.

There are many that believe that an iPhone launch might cause Sprint to make a switch to tiered data, like the three other major U.S. carriers, somewhere down the road.

So, a near-admission of an iPhone launch and an admission of the iPhone’s power over the market and Sprint’s customer base. Hopefully Hesse didn’t roll up his sleeves, otherwise we may have seen an iPhone 5 or iPhone 4S fall to the floor.

It’s still unclear whether Sprint will offer the iPhone 5 at launch or if it will offer the iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S instead.

Apple is expected to announce a new iPhone or iPhones on October 4th.
